Install TSM for Macintosh OS X Installation of the TSM Backup software involves 3 steps: • Installing the software • Setting up the TSM Automatic Backup • Testing the software STEP 1: INSTALLING THE SOFTWARE 1. From the GO menu, select CONNECT TO SERVER 2. Enter MacTSM.UH.EDU in the box and click CONNECT 3. Select GUEST and click CONNECT 4. Highlighted will be the Public icon, click the OK button 5. The Public folder will appear on your desktop, double click it 6. Open TSM MacOS X folder 7. Double click on TSMInstaller 5.2.4.0 8. You will see the message “TSM installer 5.2.4.0 requires that you type your password” Name (the name you login to your computer with) Password ( your login password) 9. At Tivoli Storage Manager screen click CONTINUE 10. At README screen click CONTINUE after reading 11. Select EASY INSTALL and click INSTALL (Install will hesitate with 11 files to go, be patient, it will continue) 12. At Finishing installation:“The Software was successfully installed.” Message click QUIT 13. From the TSM MacOS X folder located on the Public share on your desktop, copy the file “TSM System Preferences” 14. Open your hard drive, open the APPLICATION folder, open the folder “Tivoli Storage Manager 5.2.4.0” and paste the file “TSM System Preferences” into that folder. 15. Close the “TSM MacOS X” folder window and drag the PUBLIC share icon to the TRASH to disconnect it. “Install TSM for Macintosh OS X” revised 11/09/2005 Page 1 of 4
  • 2. Install TSM for Macintosh OS X STEP 2: SETTING UP THE TSM AUTOMATIC BACKUP 1. If the window for “Tivoli Storage Manager v5.2.4” is still open on your desktop, proceed to STEP 2, otherwise, select the GO menu, APPLICATIONS, “Tivoli Storage Manager v5.2.4”and double click to open this folder. ****** It is VERY important to select the proper TSM client in Step 2***** **** Do NOT use TSM BACKUP—USE TSM BACKUP For ADMINSITRATORS 2. Double click on the program “TSM Backup for Administrators” **Important: You should have already copied the supplied “TSM System Preferences” to this folder in advance. ** (See steps 13-14 under “Installing the Software” 3. At the message program “TSM Backup for Administrators” requires that you type your password. Enter your computer’s logon password to verify you have authority to install new software. Important: You must be an ADMINISTRATOR of your computer or have access to root. 4. You will receive the following message: “Node ID unknown to server. Do you wish to continue for purposes of local backup set restore or correcting an option setting” Click YES 5. Go to the UTILITES menu and select SETUP ASSISTANT 6. You will receive the message “ANS1392W “The TCA file permissions are not correct. Would you like to update the permissions?” Click YES 7. Under the TSM Client Configuration Assistant window you will be asked. “Which components would you like to configure? Check BOTH “Help me configure the TSM backup Archive Client” and “Help me configure the TSM Client Acceptor Daemon and the TSM Client Scheduler” Click OK 8. In the Preference File Task window, the option “Update option for all users” will be selected, click the RIGHT ARROW at the bottom of the window. 9. In the TSM SERVER NAME window, TSM Server Name should be TSM.UH.EDU Click the RIGHT ARROW at the bottom of the window. 10. In the TCP/IP Parameters window, Server Address should be TSM.UH.EDU and Port should be 1500, click the RIGHT ARROW at the bottom of the window. “Install TSM for Macintosh OS X” revised 11/09/2005 Page 2 of 4
  • 3. Install TSM for Macintosh OS X 11. In the TSM Authentication window, in the box below “What is the TSM node name to use?” replace the xxxxxxxxxxxxx with your registered node name. 12. In the Domain and Include / Exclude Lists, click the RIGHT ARROW at the bottom of the window. 13. In the Completing the TSM Client Configuration Assistant window, click FINISH 14. In the Login to a TSM server, window, the User ID should be your TSM registered node name. Enter the password for your TSM registered node in the Password box and click the LOGIN button. (You will have to enter this only once. After this, it is read from an encrypted file on your computer) 15. At the TSM Scheduler Wizard: Install a new scheduler, click the RIGHT ARROW at the bottom of the window. 16. At the Preferences window, click OK 17. At “Completing the TSM Client Configuration Assistant” window, click FINISH 18 Go to the FILE menu and select QUIT 19. Open the program “TSM Backup for Administrators” again. 20. You may or may not receive the following message from the Macintosh OS authorization program: “Enter your login password to very you have authority to access this new software.” Type in your login password 21. You will receive the following message: “An item in the Startup (StartupItems/dsmcad) does not have the proper Security settings”. Click FIX 22. At the message “The security settings for some startup items have been fixed. Click RESTART. CUSTOMIZING YOUR SYSTEM FOR EASY ACCESS TO TSM BACKUPS The following additional things can be done to make the TSM Backup program more accessible to you. 1. Select the GO menu, APPLICATIONS, “Tivoli Storage Manager v5.2”and double click to open this folder 2. Drag the “TSM Backup for Administrators to your DOCK to create an alias there 3. Close all windows You now have easy access to the TSM BACKUP program located in your DOCK STEP 3: TESTING THE SOFTWARE “Install TSM for Macintosh OS X” revised 11/09/2005 Page 3 of 4
  • 4. Install TSM for Macintosh OS X 1. Open the shortcut you created in your DOCK for TSM Backup or select the GO menu, APPLICATIONS, “Tivoli Storage Manager v5.2.4”and click to open this folder 2. Double click on the program “TSM Backup for Administrators” 3. You may or may not receive the following message from the Macintosh OS authorization program,; “TSM backup requires that you type your password.” Enter your computer’s logon password to verify you have authority to access this new software. Important: You must be an ADMINISTRATOR of your computer or have access to root. 4. From the Tivoli Storage Manager window, select the button BACKUP 5. Click once in the gray box beside LOCAL and a check will appear in that box. 6. Click the BACKUP button. 7. The TASK LIST window will appear and the backup will began transferring data. 8. Terminate the test by selecting the red STOP SIGN icon in the TASK LIST window. 9. You will receive the following warning “ANS50111 Back Stopped By User” Click OK 10. From the FILE menu, select CLOSE to close the Backup Report window 11. From the FILE menu select CLOSE to close the Backup window 12. From the FILE menu select QUIT to close the program Users must leave their computer up and running. However, it is no longer necessary for users to be logged in to their account on their backup night.
