    • Costs depend on JISC banding scheme
      • Band A: £5,463 + VAT
      • Band H: £2,013 + VAT
      • FE Colleges: £600 + VAT

    • OS educational copyright licence required ( currently £300 +VAT pa )
        • may need upgrading from previous licence
        • available directly from Ordnance Survey
    • Annual fee for each academic year to 2006/07
    • Academic Year = 1 August to 31 July
      • except 2004/5: 1 September – 31 July
      • subscription pro rated
  • Subscription process
    • Institution has contract with JISC directly
    • EDINA request information required to operate the service efficiently
    • Nominated individuals

  • Local support notification
    • Notify EDINA of electronic local support arrangements using EDS4

    • User profiling for Digimap means that only your users will see your local pages and support email addresses
  • Technical requirements - hardware
    • Minimum requirements for Digimap:
      • internet connectivity
      • PC, Macintosh or UNIX workstation with TCP/IP installed
      • 64Mb RAM
      • recommended screen resolution of at least 800 x 600
      • advisable screen resolution of 1024 x 768
  • Technical requirements - software
    • Minimum requirements for Digimap:
      • graphical web browser
      • support for HTML v.4
      • support for frames and tables
      • cookies enabled
    • JavaScript is recommended to enhance GUI
    • Additional requirements for Carto
      • JavaScript
      • Java version 1.3
      • Check Digimap Help pages under System Requirements
    • PC
      • Netscape Navigator v.6 or later
      • Internet Explorer v.5 or later
      • Carto will not work with Netscape 6.0 but will with 6.1 and Mozilla
    • Mac
      • Netscape Navigator v.6 or later
      • Internet Explorer v.5 or later
      • OSX with Safari v.1 or later
    Technical requirements - web browsers
  • Technical requirements - disk storage
    • Local disk storage not needed to view or print maps in GIF or PDF format
    • Can print EPS files without saving first if correct software is installed.
    • Local disk storage will be required for
      • printing EPS files
      • downloaded GIF images
      • downloaded PDF images
      • data downloaded for later use
    • Firewalls
      • may affect the running of the service
      • contact EDINA for advice if your users have network-related problems using the service
    • Networked cache servers
      • timeout for reading from the server should be at least 10 minutes
    Technical requirements - networks
    • Formats available: GIF, PDF and EPS
    • Printing EPS requires
      • PostScript printer
      • spooling utility e.g. PrintFile, Ghostscript/GSView
    • Printer specifications
      • minimum resolution of 300 dpi (higher recommended)
      • colour printer very much preferred
      • A4 size for all users
      • up to A0 size for Carto

    • Use of downloaded data will require GIS or CAD software
    • Suitable applications are available through CHEST
    • Support may be required for these packages
