  • CyberBully Alert™ USER GUIDE WelCome To Cyberbully Alert™ Communication between adults and children is the most important factor in online safety. Congratulations on giving your child the only online tool to report Cyberbullying immediately and directly—to you and other adults you might indicate. You now have the peace of mind of being notified of harmful online activity even if you are not with your child—whether you’re at work, in a meeting, on the road, or simply in another room. A SiMPlE PROCESS Once the CyberBully Alert software is installed on your child’s Macintosh or Windows PC computer, your child will have an icon placed on his or her computer’s Menu or TASk bar. If your child receives a threat online, he or she can click on the icon and send an immediate message to a computer and/or cell phone. The software also immediately captures a shot of the active screen—which is then stored in a CYBerBullY AlerT™ folder in the computer’s DOCuMenTS or MY DOCuMenTS folder. Your child also has the option of giving more details and further documenting the threat. There are 4 easy steps to install and use CyberBully Alert™. 1. Downloading the Software 2. The screen below will appear. • Click open.   • USER GUIDE CyberBully Alert™ STEP 3 using THe AlerT sysTem With a live Internet connection, your child can send an instant alert via email and/or text message by clicking on the icon and following the “SenD AlerT” instructions. Two messages can be sent: an automated alert, and a customizable alert that can include incident descriptions. • explain to your child that when the CyberBully Alert™ icon is left- clicked or double-clicked, a snapshot of the screen the user is on will be documented and sent to the CYBerBullY AlerT™ folder. The CYBerBullY AlerT™ box (to send the alert) below will appear. • Click SenD AleRt. After sending the alert, an incident description box will appear. note: You don’t have to send an alert in order to take a screen shot and save it for documentation.   • USER GUIDE CyberBully Alert™ How to Use the Snapshot and CyberBully Alert™ Folder In addition to receiving an email, you can go into the CYBerBullY AlerT™ folder in DOCuMenTS (Macintosh) or MY DOCuMenTS (Windows) to review the threatening message. Anyone with access to the user’s computer can open and view the contents of the folder. The CyberBully Alert™ folder was established to document evidence of online threats. Once the CyberBully Alert™ icon has been engaged, a copy of the screen that is visible will be immediately captured and sent to the CyberBully Alert™ file for documentation. This documentation is critical for the proper authority to hold the threatening individual(s) accountable for their actions. This folder could hold evidence that may be used for legal actions if needed in a court of law.   • CyberBully Alert™ USER GUIDE fAQ’s How will I know if my child has sent an alert? When your child clicks on the CyberBully Alert™ icon—and chooses to send the alert—all email and phone addresses that have been entered in the Manage recipients field will receive an alert message. How will I know who the alert is coming from? Your child has the option to send a second alert message and include his or her name and a description of the incident. This second alert message is sent after the initial alert and includes any text that is entered into the fields. What do I do if I receive an alert? The most important thing to do is to call the child who sent the alert. Make contact with them immediately if possible. The CyberBully Alert™ software is for initiating communication between adults and children. It is up to the adults to assess the situation and handle it accordingly. When should my child use CyberBully Alert™? It is important to sit down with your child and explain this software and its uses. Your child can send an alert for any online activity that he or she feels uncomfortable about. Please refer to the reSOurCeS page on our website for additional tools. Can I reply to the alert messages I receive? no. Alert messages are designed to notify you of a situation your son or daughter wants you to know about. It is up to parents to make contact with their child after receiving an alert. Who should I add to receive alert messages? CyberBully Alert™ recommends parents, other family members, teachers, coaches, and so on. recipients should be adults and should be notified that they may be receiving these alerts from your child or children. The recipients do not have to have CyberBully Alert™ installed on their computer to receive alerts. How do I Use the Screen Shot Feature? each time an alert is sent, a picture is immediately taken of the screen the user is viewing, and saved to a folder on the computer. Screen shots are used for documentation purposes. each screen shot is titled with the time and date of the alert. Where are screen shots saved? The CyberBully Alert™ folder is installed when the software is downloaded. each time an alert is sent, the screen shot is saved in this folder. refer to this folder to see details of the screen that your child was viewing when an alert was sent.   • USER GUIDE CyberBully Alert™ Can I change who the alerts are sent to? Yes. The Manage recipients box allows you to add and remove recipients’ emails and phone numbers at anytime. You will need to enter your license key to make any changes. How do you guarantee I will receive the CyberBully Alerts? The messages are generated from an online account with guaranteed 99.9 percent uptime. The user’s computer must be connected to the internet when an alert is sent.
