2. Detective court has little experience in a case such as this one however ‘9’ has pushed
him to his limits so much so , that hey expresses a rage unknown to him normally
which is what we seen in the first scene.
Detective court was set out to be similar dressed to the
example picture shown bellow , in just a simple ,not
extravagant , -which we managed to get him to
where, however we did plan to do certain things with the
charters hair but due to recasting and some though into who
would play the charter best we had a character with very low
hair. Therefore a subtext would not be established there
however they way in which we directed his body and this
pauses showed the subtext in which we wished to portray.
This subtext was that court Has been driven to the edge by
this constant game between court and 9 . 9 has driven a
otherwise calm and respectable man (shown through pause
of thought) to near lunacy (shown in wild out bursts)
The audience are made to feel the tension build up in the
first scene due to the juxtaposition which ethicizes the two
character –thus making there felling towards each character
greater. The mysterious creepy (original ) piano playing
made 9 seem sadistic and evil , the “bad guy” and due to the
comparison court was made to seem relatable – thus certain
polar opposites shown court to be the good guy and 9 to be
the bad guy.
However without the music this would not be the case
because there is not distinct costume difference showing the
characters themes e.g whether they are good or bad
Court was an attempt to create a urban film nior cop driven
to the edge , shown by hi s acting and modern day attire .
3. We intended 9 to wear earthy colours which suggest stealth and isolation
as he does not try to be fashionable. He blends in with the surrounds e.g.
bushes and trees “cars” ( which is useful as he is a stalker) however the
earth colours i had in mind where unattainable but I believe that the colour
a and material we did use gave of the right feel / themes to the audience.
We had 9 where a wool jumped made with dark patched colours as well as
a black (instead of brown) trench coat , black trousers and black industrial
boots. The costume we used was dark and camouflage giving of that
creepy stalker feel. Also instead of a masks we used tights which in my
opinion works better as it look very low budget, second hand , dirt and
gritty , which is how we want 9 to seem –similar to the opening of se7en
however t not to those extremes.
Playing 9 I had to show both his intelligence and insanity to the audience
, I believe I did this through the voice I put on. His voice was well spoken yet
with a rusty undertone (showing intelligence with rusty undertone
showing/indicating roughness which installs fear -however small it may be
–in the audience.
In 9s staying calm in the interview he shows the power he has over the
situation and shows the audience his arrogance (which gets them to
further feel negative about him )
We aimed for the reactions of the audience to help cause the suspense
that's why everything had a purpose.
The use of childish shushes to quiet her –Her being the captured-was an
attempt t to make the audience shudder and see 9 as more of a “creep”.
Further more his use of this primary teacher method distorts the innocents
associated with it , thus making the audience fell more unconformable
with 9 .
9 in our eyes was a cross between Hannibal lector and the American
psycho but in an urban setting. We aimed for the same feel as you go from
both famous killers but in a modern setting.
4. The captured was taken from her home so it made
sense to put her in comfortable clothing e.g leggings
and a jumper. However this costume works more
than just being costume as it makes our captures
seem more valuable and innocent to the audience
thus making 9 look even more villainous . Because of
this contrast and this build up of dislike toward 9 we
(being the audience ) instinctively support the
captured and wish for her safety.
Her pleading further ethicised this.
The captured represents the modern day girl and can
relate to such an audience thus making the
experience more person and emotive. Her clothing is
of current times and the repetition in what she says is
something similar to how we might imagine
ourselves in such a situation or at least get the
audience to ask the question “what would I say in
such a situation?”
