Welcome to the world of Samaritan Help Mission SHM is a Voluntary, Non-profit Organization committed for the Emancipation and Empowerment of Poor Children and Women through Education and Vocational training. SHM’s avowed objective is to empower the underprivileged and disadvantaged members of the society through awareness and education. Empowerment sustainability

Mission Statement To prevent the exploitation of poor slum children, specially girls, by anti-social elements by providing them opportunity for quality education - from KG to high school and vocational training. Also higher education and health facilities so that they develop into healthy, hardworking, broadminded, intelligent, compassionate, citizens who rise above the narrow considerations of caste, creed, community, religion, region or language and help build a strong nation.  MOTTO:- We Go by NEED, Not By CREED

Brief Introduction of SHM and its founder Mamoon <ul><li>Samaritan Help Mission was started by a youth Mamoon Akhtar who lives in the same slum of tikiapara Howrah and studied upto XIIth std. </li></ul><ul><li>Mamoon started SHM in the year 1999 with the help of his friends in a small room of 600 sqft for the slum children who are involved in drug trafficking and peddling donated his life saving to build a small school on small place inherited from his late father and donated the place to build a school for the poor Children </li></ul><ul><li>Previously working as librarian in a small school on a small salary of 3500/- now devout full time to SHM, He and his family been taken care by Mumbai Group of Friends. </li></ul><ul><li>Mamoon is a secular Muslim inspired by the teaching of Prophet Mohammed (SWS) and swami Vivekananda, </li></ul><ul><li>The mission of SHM is to build the children as a good citizen, who will raise their voice against the Communalist and fanatic forces only if they are educated and have good moral values. </li></ul>

About Tikiapara <ul><li>Howrah falls under the Kolkata Mega City, covering the left stretch of Grand </li></ul><ul><li>Trunk Road from Tikiapara Bally to Panchpara of Howrah MunicipalCorporation. A </li></ul><ul><li>number of Jute Mills, small-scale and sick industries are located here. Once known </li></ul><ul><li>as the Sheffield of the East, the region has fallen into obscurity marked by a grinding </li></ul><ul><li>cycle of endemic poverty, unchecked population growth and overall paucity of </li></ul><ul><li>development initiatives. A once thriving industrial zone has now become a vast belt of </li></ul><ul><li>sick and Closed factories with feeble economic activity. Resulting very low literacy </li></ul><ul><li>rate and Unemployment leading the present generation in the hand of anti-social </li></ul><ul><li>elements to Earn their livelihood by any means, The future Generation of India is </li></ul><ul><li>walking on the Path of destruction. The Underprivileged Bustee of Tikiapara has been </li></ul><ul><li>Declared as T.B Prone Zone. </li></ul>

  11. 11. Samaritan Kindergarten <ul><li>Samaritan Kindergarten projects was started For slum Kids whose works </li></ul><ul><li>as housemaid and Leaves them on the street and go to work, These </li></ul><ul><li>children are used by the drug and begging mafia. </li></ul>

Computer Literacy Program for the poor meritorious girls who do not have access computer education <ul><li>The Computer Literacy Project was started for the poor girls students of the Tikiapara Slum who have a distant dream to have computer education.Certificate awarded to the successful trainees. </li></ul>
  13. 13. Samaritan Mission school (An English Medium School for the poor Girls and boys of all Communities, A dream Come true <ul><li>The 26th May-2008 is one of the remarkable days for SHM. By the help and support from Mumbai Group of Friends , SHM have succeeded in establishing an English medium school for the poor girls and boys of all communities. Those poor parents who never dreamt of sending their child to an English Medium School are proud and they are happier to find wonderful progress among the Children. This is the very proud moment for all of them. That in the past those children who were standing on the street holding a packet of drug waiting for the customers are studying in an English Medium School and have started speaking in English. </li></ul>

AFTER SCHOOL TEACHING PROJECT <ul><li>Due to lack of school and educational awareness and poverty, A large numbers of poor Children are deprived with the basic right of education, and they are compel to work, ASTP project conducted for these groups, and later on they are taken under formal schooling. </li></ul>
  16. 16. OUR VOLUNTEERS <ul><li>Samaritan Help Mission is 100% volunteer based institution. Most of the work of SHM is been carried out by the Girls volunteers who are college going poor girls. According to their college timing they volunteer in various education programmes of SHM, They are the pillars of SHM 90% of the works are been carried by the Girls Volunteers . </li></ul><ul><li>Volunteers receive a monthly honorarium of Rs.300 to 400 - they use this money for paying their College fees and other educational needs. </li></ul><ul><li>SHM also provides educational support to these volunteers like buying books or providing admission into various degree courses in their colleges. SHM is very proud to have such volunteers in its organization. </li></ul>

FUTURE PROGRAMMES <ul><li>Expansion and Consolidation of Vocational Training Project, that will create more Job opportunities to the deprived women and Girls </li></ul><ul><li>To Establish Samaritan Health care and awareness Centre ( A health care Project for the slum children and their families. The project is in pipeline. </li></ul><ul><li>To establish an English Medium High School cum technical Institute for the Boys and girls, </li></ul>

How You can help the cause <ul><li>By donating books Copies Pencils to the school, </li></ul><ul><li>Helping the children to get a pair of dress or bag every year. </li></ul><ul><li>Donating Benches and desks for our Upgrading classes. </li></ul><ul><li>Sending gifts to the Poor Children </li></ul><ul><li>Helping SHM to get teachers training for the quality improvement of education </li></ul><ul><li>Supporting a Volunteer for her College Education. </li></ul><ul><li>Sending Old cloths to SHM, we auction them to raise some funds for Our Project </li></ul><ul><li>Sending Used Newspaper every month, we sell them to raise some funds for the Project. </li></ul><ul><li>Spreading awareness about work to others. </li></ul><ul><li>Supporting the various Projects, Monthly or annually. </li></ul>
