1. 1. News Release
6,000 ladies of Peterborough pledge to beat Cancer
25th March 2011
6,000 ladies of Peterborough pledge to beat Cancer.
In East Anglia alone, 15 people a day are diagnosed with cancer. However, this June thousands of women in Peterborough will come together in order to decrease these figures and beat cancer in one of the country’s biggest fundraisers, the Race for Life.
3209925297180
The Race for Life, which will be celebrating its 17th birthday this year, asks women to run, jog or walk 5k in order to raise money and awareness for cancer at the Embankment in Peterborough on Sunday 12th June 2011 at 11:00.
Nearby Race for Life events can be found on the website.
Since it started in 1994, women who have participated in The Race for Life have raised an outstanding £327,000, meaning more people are beating this life-threatening disease than ever before.
Jane Redman, spokesperson for Cancer Research UK, says “Everyone at Race for Life has their own special reason for participating. They might be taking part in memory or celebration of a loved one or to mark their own journey. They might be joining together for a great, fun day out with the girls. Whatever their motivation, they are united by a spirit of sisterhood and the heartfelt determination to beat cancer. Together they are doing something extra-ordinary – raising money to find research which saves lives”.
With the help of the participants in Peterborough, Cancer Research UK is hoping to raise a fundraising hit of £334,000 this year. For more information in regards to the Race for Life, go to www.raceforlife.org.uk. Alternatively you can call 0871 641 111.
Notes to editor
There is a £14.99 entry fee which covers the cost and staging of the event.
Cancer Research UK funding supports the work of scientists, doctors and nurses who are dedicated to beating cancer by understanding its causes and investigating how best to prevent, diagnose and treat the disease.
Target Media:
Stamford Mercury & CitizenMercury House,7 Sheepmarket,Stamford,Lincolnshire,PE9 2QZTelephone: 01780 762255The Hunts Post30 High Street Huntingdon PE29 3TB Telephone: 01480 411481The Evening TelegraphThe Peterborough Evening Telegraph,57 Priestgate,Peterborough,Cambridgeshire,England,PE1 1JWTelephone: 01733 555 111Peterborough CitizenPeterborough Citizen,New Priestgate House57 PriestgatePeterboroughCambridgeshirePE1 1JW01733 555 111
Permission:
-895350962025The following is a copy of an e-mail which gives me permission to use the image which has been embedded within the news release:
