  • With Force.com, there’s no infrastructure to manage and no complicated software stack to install, patch, or tune. We take care of all of the infrastructure for you, with world-class security, scalability, and reliability.<click>Force.com also gives you a development platform for building enterprise apps. Building custom apps on Force.com is much faster than traditional platforms, because we provide pre-built business app components like database, programmable UI and Logic, workflow, analytics, and more.<click>Plus with Chatter, every app you build on Force.com can be a social app, with pre-built collaboration components like profiles, feeds, and content sharing. What all this means is that you can focus innovation, and let us take care of the rest.
  • Pre-built, pre-tested, pre-integrateTraditional:Choose a platformSet up development environmentsWrite lots of code to implement data model, user management, process flows, and UIForce.com:No set-up necessaryDeclaratively leverage pre-built components:
  • Force.com customers are building 4 different type of custom apps. Second, customers are also building departmental apps like the franchise management app that Haagen Dazs built for a 1/3 of the cost of .Net.Third, customers are building public web sites that capture or deliver data such as leads, products, or events. For example, Starbucks built a website to manage volunteering events and pledges in 4 weeks, and it easily scaled to 2M visitors in the first week after their CEO announced the campaign on the Oprah show..And finally, customers are building all types of apps to manage a range of business processes such as medical research at Genentech. Genentech used their medical research app to add 11 new products in just 12 months.
  • Many customers are looking to migrate from legacy platforms such as lotus notes, to a modern web-based platform to improve usability and reporting while reducing integration and administration costs. For example, ASCAP replaced a Lotus Notes-based digital rights mgmt system in 6 weeks and . Lawson, the 2nd largest convenience store chain replaced 5000 seats of Lotus Notes, and built a new store development app 5x faster at 1/5 the cost, according to their CIO (who told the story on stage with Marc at Dreamforce 2009)
  • Many IT organizations have difficulty satisfying the many requests for tactical, departmental apps. This often results in end-users creating lots of unmanageable ‘rogue apps. With Force.com, users have the flexibility to quickly and easily create their own apps with little or no code, while IT can still maintain control over data security and application governance policies. Plus, it’s easy to scale and integrate if these tactical departmental apps later grow into strategic corporate apps.Examples of departmental apps include Dell’s IT governance application to manage all of their incoming change requests, which they built in under 8 weeks. 20/20 built their invoice and payroll apps 5x faster than on .NET and reduced the risks connected to on-premises development, according to their CIO Mark Warren.
  • Many customers are also using the platform to automate core business processes in a lower-cost, faster, more agile way. Vetrazzo built a custom ERP application for their recycled glass countertop business to handle everything from manufacturing and supply chain to distribution and fulfillment, all at 1/3 of the cost of .NET, according to their CEO James Sheppard. Sovereign Insurance built an insurance claims processing app in 4 months with just 3 developers -- several times faster than .NET. Genentech used their medical research app to add 11 new products in just 12 months.
  • Finally, customers are increasingly leveraging their Force.com investment by building public web sites that capture or deliver data such as leads, products, or events. For example, Starbucks built a website to manage volunteering events and pledges in 4 weeks, and it easily scaled to 2M visitors in the first week after their CEO announced the campaign on the Oprah show. LI-COR, a leading manufacturer of bio-science instruments, built an e-commerce site complete with product search, shopping cart, recommendations, and payment processing, all in under 9 weeks, and increased cross-sales of their accessories by 100%.
