10. 10. KS5 – BTEC National Award in Personal & Business Finance?

Designed for more able students to give them a superior qualification to progress to university or high status career as part of the Career Academy programme.

Financial capability is taught at a high level to develop a real understanding of the financial services industry (2 units out of 6 dedicated to personal finance)

Outside scope of most business teachers’ knowledge and training

 11. 11. Good try business department, but…

1. Only delivering to the less able and the more able. Most are in the middle.

2. Only delivered to students studying business studies any way. What about the rest?

 12. 12. To summarise the problems

Busy curriculum

Inexperienced teachers or inappropriately experienced teachers

League tables

Student perception where not part of a qualification

Business studies teachers are the most qualified to teach it but they are not really allowed near it…except by accident!
