1. Our Music Video Pitch. Daisy and Sadie.

2. Introduction. Out of the different products we decided to produce a music video because we think we can come up with some good ideas for our final product and we are both interested in the music industry. We also have perfect access to copyright free good music as Sadie’s brother sings and plays music. Our video needs to appeal to target audiences of mostly teenagers, particularly interested in the indie/acoustic scene. As a young male artist he appeal more to females. However, although the main target would be a younger generation his music would be enjoyed by adults too as it is quite relaxing and in no way offensive. Researching similar artists such as James Morrison and James Blunt we know that many adults would buy there album or listen to there music. Knowing this we must not make our product directly for a niche younger audience. We talked about Joel's style he will be dressed sort of indie like, this is his normal style and we want him to come through as he normally does. This style will link with his acoustic music and also be appealing to our target audience, without being directly too associated with a niche group and deterring other people of different styles. Having looked at acoustic artists and their video’s generic conventions show they are often simple and quite slow, usually featuring the artist singing (miming) at the camera at some point and often when it is a male artists they feature a girl. They usually tell the story of the song or relate to the mood of the lyrics.

3. Artist. For our video we are using Joel Owen, who is a song writer and singer. We listened to a few different songs and wrote down idea’s but the one that inspired us most is a song called, One of those days. This is a clip of our artist performing live at Sophbeck, Leicester. 4. Research. Having researched video's of Joel's style and genre of music such as James Blunt and James Morrison we see that some video's tell the story of the song i.e James Blunts Goodbye my lover http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcblUah5XcI (for some reason i could only find the video with Spanish translation on!), where as others may just look like a performance of the song. We have used elements of both but it mostly like the narrative video, as he isn't performing it as such however at points he will be miming along with it. 5. Idea’s for the video. We have chosen to make our video narrative and sort of telling the story of the song. In this song he is singing about how he is having a bad day, feeling like he is going no where, we want to show him stood still but everyone and thing moving around him. Fast forward, slow down. We are planning on having family and his girlfriend trying to talk to him and cheer him up. We also had the idea’s of showing like a drink going down near him and a clock going round, fast forwarded. At one point in the song after his girlfriend has come to see him, if we are able to we want to use a split screen idea. (like Plain White T’s – Delilah) To show Joel in his room and his girlfriend outside and then show him sending her a text and him receiving it. We have made a brief outline of what will be happening in each section of the song:

Joel in bed, show him fidgeting picking up phone/trying to get to sleep etc Girlfriend going to knock on door outside but hesitating. Split screen, girl on outside of door Joel inside, Joel looks out of window and see’s her and she leaves but he texts her saying ‘Thanks for trying to make me smile, please come back tomorrow.’ Look up at each other, she smiles Joel look like forced smile back, then he shuts the curtains and lies back on the bed. Walks downstairs still family just passing around him and not noticing him go outside. Joel stood still, singing (miming) at the camera outside the house and then everyone driving off and going out around him, showing he’s going no where. End multiple split screen Joel in middle on his own and then the other ones his family and girlfriend off doing there own things looking happy. Fade out.

7. Location/Mise en scene. Originally for our mise en scene and location we planned to use, a busy high street most likely in town, however we have now decided to have the same effect with people passing him by but just at home, this would show a more personal approach to him feeling alone. We will use a kitchen area and probably a living room, we also will have him in his bedroom at one point, we want the bedroom to be really plain and quite empty, just very minimal mise en scene. We will also be using the outside of the house, we're not sure who's house we will be using yet but it just needs to be an ordinary family home. The video won't have many characters in our video, it will have Joel obviously, then a girl similar age to him playing his girlfriend, possible his real girlfriend or maybe just one of our friends as a few do drama. We will also use his family in the background in the home scenes when they are walking around him.

8. Ancillary Tasks. For our ancillary tasks, we are going to make a CD cover for the single and a poster advertising it and Joel as an artist. These were the most obvious choices to do with our video as we can clearly link all the products together and they would both contribute to the single and music video reaching a wider audience. We would like them to relate to what we see in video, so I have an idea that it would be Joel stood looking at the camera and blur's of people passing. Possibly with Joel in black and white and the surrounding setting and people in colour. This links to our idea's for the opening of our video, so it would look almost like a still shot from it. However it wouldn't be, as I think we would use a different location for example outside somewhere really busy instead of set in the house which is what we are doing in the video. CD Cover. We are thinking we may draw our CD cover or the background with photo’s of Joel. We plan for the front to be plain white and have 3 pictures of him in slightly different poses with the title of the song and his name. The back cover we may draw a clock (relating to the video) and have a picture of Joel tessellated round like he is the hands moving round and then it would have the track and our company logo. Researching similar covers, like Jason Mraz and James Blunt we can see that most covers just have the artist and then minimal writing. This is a sketch of what we plan for it to look like:

9. Poster. For the poster we are using the idea of the blurred people in the background and then Joel still in the centre. It will be simple with just our logo, his name and the name of this single with release dates etc. The poster for The Terminal film is like the idea we want to use: We are using this idea because it relates to the opening of the video. 10. Institution. For our institution we are going to use our own company that we have made up, because of copy right. And we want to have our own style on it that doesn’t necessarily follow all the typical conventions of other production companies.
