  • Tacit knowledge has been defined as one’s personal, internal or interior knowledge as opposed to the external, physical knowledge that has been written down or recorded as an artifact. Studies show that the majority of the “Intellectual Capital” held by any organization is stored as tacit knowledge rather than physical knowledge. By leveraging SharePoint’s People Search and User Profiles, you can help other users find and gain access to all that hidden knowledge. But the first step to leveraging all that Intellectual Capital is to maximize the efficient recording, processing, and retrieval of information about what people in your organization know. In this class, we’ll examine how to leverage the Managed Metadata service to efficiently categorize the things that people in your organization know. We’ll discuss how and when to create custom user profile properties to record additional information and how to surface these properties in the People Search results page. We’ll also discuss ways to automate the collection of data from AD and other sources to provide a rich repository that reflects what your members/employees know. If you are struggling to find people in your organization who know what you need to know, then this class is for you.
