3. 3. The Corporate Environment in 2008

Unstructured Data which needs to be accessed and searched

Federated

Collaboration across different work locations vital

Collective intelligence is

the best defence against Black Swans and

a good predictor of Tipping Points

Mass Entrepreneurship or Individual Capitalism is the big trend for the 21 st Century

Everyone is building their own P&L and Brand

In order to succeed, one needs to be open to negative PR [the mirror held up to oneself] – as you can’t control brand image – you can only create superior feedback loops

Asymmetrical strategies have power

Technology

Virtual is Real

Clouds on the Horizon

 4. 4. “ A quiet revolution is underway, led by the world’s most rapidly developing economies – with the least to spend and the most to gain” – Jonathan Schwartz

By 2012, 90% of the world’s companies will be using open source software - Gartner

Barriers to global trade have never been lower, nor has communication ever been simpler, driving political reform, cultural transparency, social progress and a tidal wave of wealth creation – all driven by the internet but actually more than that – driven by an endorsement of technology freedom.

Free is not proprietary, embraces collaboration, openness and standards – without royalties or risk or patent litigation

MySQL, Ubuntu, Open Office

OpenOffice.org is a free office software suite used by approximately 100 m users across the world with concentrations in the developing world

 5. 5. Connectivity Drives Simpler, Safer, Smarter

When virtualizing applications to be used by people who care nothing about computers or technology, the key thing we want to virtualize or hide from the user is complexity.

 6. 6. A Cambrian Explosion?

Cambrian Explosion - the period over 500 million years ago when the rate of evolution accelerated by an order of magnitude, giving rise to both more complex animals and a far greater diversity of organisms.

Partly due to the cell being perfected and standardized, so evolution could focus its energies in using these essentially commoditized cells in far more complex and diverse ways.

Digital components following the path of cells in biology

The IT industry spent a considerable fraction of its energies developing the basic components.

Now that they are essentially standardized, commoditized and good enough for most purposes, we see both the emergence of massively scalable systems—i.e., cloud data centers—as well as a huge increase in the number and diversity of IT-based devices connected to the cloud.

These include mobile phones, sensors, cars, consumer electronics, medical equipment, as well as classic personal computers.

 7. 7. Continuing Web Evolution

Early Web

Access and Find

Web 2.0

Share and Collaborate

Visual Immersive Web

Experience, Participate and Co-Create

 9. 9. What we learned from Skype The Consumerisation of Technology

That the Consumer World would heavily influence a fully connected business world

That new products and services would be adopted by individuals who would bring them into the enterprise changing the adoption process of new technologies

That success had nothing to do with P2P VOIP but “free calls on the web”

That marketing trumps technology again and again

 10. 10. Top of Mind for the CEO in 2008

The Network Orientation to Business

Two Way Dialogue with your customer

Marketing Becomes Analytical

Collective Intelligence

Customer Service is a Right

Affinity Groups Moving Online

Communications should be easy

Voice-powered applications are defining the ultimate in user interface

 26. 26. What Entrepreneurs Do Inside Companies - They get out and create a market storm

Entrepreneurs, if they're good, have the best insight into how particular markets are developing. They are in the "eye of the storm," dealing every day with how markets are dynamically evolving.

Entrepreneurs also think differently. They see things that others don't. They feel compelled to make stuff happen, often simply because they see something that doesn't exist yet—and should.

Sometimes that blind faith leads to catastrophe, but more often, entrepreneurial insights eventually turn into step changes in how industries operate.

 27. 27. Don’t Play Small Be Fearless

“ Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? …. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. …. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”

- Marianne Williamson

 28. 28.

“ We have the power within to build the world anew” – - Thomas Paine
