Confluence as Personal Wiki - Presentation Transcript
ATLASSIAN CONFLUENCE AS A PERSONAL WIKI
“While you may not be able to develop a photographic memory,
there are some things you can do to improve your 'memory'.”
WHY A PERSONAL WIKI ANYWAY?
“Knowledge-based industries come to represent ever-larger portions of the global
economy, the importance of knowledge increases for knowledge-based corporations,
institutions, and organizations as a source of competitive advantage.\"
- Drucker 1992
“But I'm not a company, WTF?!”
Not quite, but:
\"As the lifetime of knowledge decreases, the necessity for lifelong learning increases.
Knowledge is becoming ever more important as an individual good, a social resource,
and an economic agent of production.”
- Drucker 1994, Reinmann-Rothmeier 2000;
Reinmann-Rothmeier & Mandl, 1999
And:
“Knowledge workers need techniques to sort,
analyse and archive relevant information to
handle and use today's flood of information.”
- Hube 2005
THERE ARE SO MANY WIKIS – WHY CONFLUENCE?
Coming to think of it, I'm using
Confluence as a personal Wiki...
For an exhaustive list of Wiki-Software check:

...because I love it.
Ok, the world doesn't revolve around me, so let's
look at the facts that might make you love your
Confluence personal Wiki as well...
THE POWER OF CONFLUENCE I

There's a Blogging Functionality
●
THE POWER OF CONFLUENCE III
Easy WYSIWYG Editor:
●
Powerful but easy to learn Wiki-Syntax:
●
- Similar to HTML, e.g. h1. to h6. for Headlines
- Macros such as {panel} to design a Wiki page
Easy Table of Contents:
●
HOW YOU COULD USE IT
Jot down the Gist of Non-Fiction Books, articles, etc.
●
This way:
- You don't have to remember everything
- You wont't have to browse your notepad to look for the page where
you actually wrote it down - A notepad is not “searchable”
Organize your life:
●
- If you're working on several projects, create a Wiki-Space
for each one and leverage the power of Confluence
- If you're on a call or in a meeting, you can save your minutes
to your Wiki instead of taking “traditional notes”
HOW I'M CURRENTLY USING IT
I'm trying to write Master's thesis with it ;-)
