  • Just over 1,000 tweets in 3 years doesn’t mean a lack of engagement, it just means I think about what I say because I know it will make a difference when people assess my online profile. In the same breath, you shouldn’t over-analyse what you’re saying as you will end up saying nothing at all.
  • Recent Forrester research showed that, for the first time, social media usage in the US went down across many areas. This indicates the risk that we all face – that there is so much rubbish content out there that the good stuff is being lost. If we use social media to network with people we have never met or even spoken to, then we risk destroying the benefits of online platforms like LinkedIn.
  • I started Media Mingle because I knew nobody in the Auckland media industry and it was the quickest way to get my name out there. It has made a huge difference to the size of my network and I never could have had the same kind of connections with people simply by hanging out with them on Twitter, for example.
