  • 6. THE EDGE IS LOOKING FOR… <ul><li>Three installation works of varying scale. </li></ul><ul><li>They will be installed in the space for at least 12 months. </li></ul><ul><li>Something that combines the arts, sciences & technologies in wonderful ways. </li></ul><ul><li>Work that responds to the spaces. </li></ul><ul><li>Collaboration in the Edge community. </li></ul>
  • 7. WHAT THE EDGE WANTS THE WORK TO… <ul><li>Be site specific. </li></ul><ul><li>Have a depth of engagement with the audience. </li></ul><ul><li>Reflect the Edge as both a space & an idea. </li></ul><ul><li>Invoke a response from the community. </li></ul>

ANIMATE THAT OPPORTUNITIES <ul><li>$10,000 for a work that is situated in the breezeway and/or foyer. </li></ul><ul><li>$3,000 for a publically accessible work somewhere in the Edge or on the online platform. </li></ul><ul><li>$150 for a publically accessible work somewhere in the Edge or on the online platform. </li></ul>
  • 9. $10,000 COMMISSION The Breezeway The Foyer Open to Australian creative's ( or teams with members mostly ) 25 year old or younger.
  • 10. $3000 & $150 COMMISSION <ul><li>Open to Queensland creative's ( or teams with members mostly ) 25 year old or younger. </li></ul>Everywhere & anywhere the public are in the Edge
  • 11. THE FACTS (I) – THE ARTISTS. <ul><li>One application per person per level. </li></ul><ul><li>Open to individuals, groups and organisations. </li></ul><ul><li>If you ’re working for the State Library of Queensland, you cannot apply. </li></ul><ul><li>If you used to work for the State Library of Queensland, you can apply. </li></ul><ul><li>The commission applies to all costs associated with the work, including travel. </li></ul><ul><li>The Edge will cover the public liability & professional indemnity. </li></ul>

THE FACTS (II) – THE WORK. <ul><li>Needs to be site specific. </li></ul><ul><li>Will be exhibited exclusively at The Edge for at least 12 months. </li></ul><ul><li>The copyright remains with the artist(s). </li></ul><ul><li>If it uses electricity, it will need to be tagged & tested. </li></ul><ul><li>Will be properly risk assessed & associated management plans will be put in place. </li></ul><ul><li>There will be one commissioned work at each level. </li></ul>

THE FACTS (III) – THE FUNDING. <ul><li>It is income, not a prize, so you will need to handle the tax. </li></ul><ul><li>The funding is GST exclusive. </li></ul><ul><li>It would be a good idea to run it through an ABN rather than a statement of supplier </li></ul><ul><li>Funding for the commissions is paid in three parts: </li></ul><ul><li>- A third up upon approval of the project plan. </li></ul><ul><li>- A third on installation of the work. </li></ul><ul><li>- A third at the conclusion of the 12 month install period. </li></ul>

THE FACTS (IV) – SELECTION PROCESS. <ul><li>Applications close on the 14 th October through the website, not the 7 th ; we ’ve extended the deadline </li></ul><ul><li>Applications will be shortlisted by the 21 st October and people will be contacted. </li></ul><ul><li>Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed late October. </li></ul><ul><li>Winners will be announced early November. </li></ul><ul><li>Interviews will be conducted by internal (State Library of Queensland) and external reviewers. </li></ul>

THE FACTS (V) – SELECTION CRITERIA. <ul><li>We have five (5) criteria for selection of the works: </li></ul><ul><li>Originality. </li></ul><ul><li>Practicality. </li></ul><ul><li>Engagement with, and understanding of, the audience. </li></ul><ul><li>Responsiveness to space. </li></ul><ul><li>WOW factor. </li></ul><ul><li>Let us elaborate on those criteria… </li></ul>
