ELECTROSTATIC PRECIPITATORS <ul><li>The ash left behind after combustion of coal is arrested in high efficiency Electrostatic precipitators (ESP) and particulate emission is controlled well within the stipulated norms. </li></ul><ul><li>The ash collected in the ESP is disposed to ash ponds in slurry form. </li></ul><ul><li>Emission standard (world bank) Particulate matter (max)-50 microgram per cubic meter. </li></ul>
  • 5. FLUE GAS STACK <ul><li>Tall flue gas stack is provided for wide dispersion of gaseous emission (SO2, NO2 etc) into atmosphere. </li></ul><ul><li>Stack height (in Meters) </li></ul><ul><li>500 MW and above – 275 </li></ul><ul><li>200 MW and less than 500 MW-220 </li></ul>
  • 6. LOW NO2 BURNERS <ul><li>NO2 emissions are controlled by provision of low NO2 burners. </li></ul><ul><li>By adopting best combustion practices. </li></ul><ul><li>Emission standards –world bank (in micrograms per cubic meter) </li></ul><ul><li>NO2 100 </li></ul><ul><li>SO2 80 </li></ul>

  • 8. COAL & OIL SETTLING PITS <ul><li>In these pits , coal dust and oil are removed from the effluents from coal handling plant ,coal yard and fuel oil handling areas before discharge into Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP). </li></ul>
  • 9. ASH DYKES & ASH DISPOSAL SYSTEM <ul><li>Ash ponds are provided for ash disposal. </li></ul><ul><li>Ash ponds are divided into lagoons and provided with garlanding arrangements for change over of the ash slurry feed points for even filling of the pond and for effective of ash particles. </li></ul><ul><li>Ash in slurry form is discharge into the lagoons where ash particle settled from the slurry and clear effluent water is discharge from ash ponds. </li></ul>
  • 10. ASH WATER RECYCLEING SYSTEM <ul><li>The effluent water from ash pond is circulated back to the power plant for further slucing to the ash pond. </li></ul><ul><li>This helps in savings of fresh water requirement for transportation of ash from the plant. </li></ul>

DRY ASH EXTRACTION SYSTEM <ul><li>Dry ash much higher utilization potential in ash based products e g </li></ul><ul><li>Land reclamation. </li></ul><ul><li>Structural land filling. </li></ul><ul><li>Road making. </li></ul><ul><li>Cement manufacturing. </li></ul><ul><li>Bricks manufacturing. </li></ul>
  • 12. NEUTRALIZATION PITS <ul><li>Neutralization pits are provided in water treatment plant (WTP) for Ph correction of effluents before discharge into effluent treatment plant (ETP) for further treatment and use. </li></ul>
  • 13. SOURCE OF LIQUID EFFLUINTS <ul><li>Cooling tower blow down. </li></ul><ul><li>Boiler blow down. </li></ul><ul><li>Power area service water waste. </li></ul><ul><li>Water treatment plant waste. </li></ul><ul><li>DM plant regeneration plant. </li></ul><ul><li>CHP/AHP waste. </li></ul><ul><li>Effluent from silo area. </li></ul>

EFFLUENT TREATMENT PLANTS(ETP) <ul><li>The objective of industrial liquid effluent treatment plant (ETP) is discharge clean effluent from the power plants to meet environmental standards and to reduce intake water requirement. </li></ul><ul><li>The scheme involves collection of various effluents and their appropriate treatment centrally and recirculation of the treated effluent for various plant uses. </li></ul>

THERMAL POLLUTION <ul><li>Cooling towers are provided for cooling the hot condenser cooling water in closed cycle condenser cooling water system. </li></ul><ul><li>This helps in reduction in thermal pollution an conservation of fresh water. </li></ul><ul><li>Condenser outlet cooling water (once through ) should not be more than 3 degree than intake temperature (world bank standard) . </li></ul>
  • 17. NOISE POLLUTION CONTROL <ul><li>The entire plant is so procured/installed that resultant noise level within premises remains with standard limits. </li></ul><ul><li>Standard (world bank) for industrial area - 70 dB max outside the project property boundary. </li></ul>
