If you were added to the group an have no idea who added you or why you are here there are a few important notes about the groups in Facebook. Unfortunately Facebook changed how groups work a while back and people are no longer "invited" to groups, but are now simply "added". It's a very confusing system, and a lot of people are unhappy about it.
You where added: To stop the emails go to the group page and click "Edit Settings" then de-select the "Email notifications to:" Group Chat: If you don't want to deal with Chat then de-select the "send me group chat messages". You can leave the group by clicking "Leave Group" just under the "Members" and "Add Friends to Group"
Adding Friends: Of course we would love it if you would add friends, but do keep in mind they are just added and not "invited" so they might get a bit upset with you (as some of you are with me ;o) and there's no space for a personal note.
