  • What film?
  • Rodney Copperbottom
  • The fruit of His Spirit, growing across our society, would totally transform our world
  • Our work must start and finish with God’s gospel, ever-alert to His Spirit
  • Not just spoken but lived & demonstrated in our lives; “apart from Him, we can do no good thing” – so easily overwhelmed on our own but God gives us His Spirit and His Church (fellowship with Christ and His people – we are never alone!)
  • I used to think this meant I must always be remembering specific things before God in prayer BUT actually look again! It’s all our lives that matter to God and He can use for the glory of His Name. True spiritual warfare is recognising the battles we fight in our lives against evil need God’s help & intervention to give us the victory.
  • Don’t be afraid of “big” prayers – God never asks us to limit what we long to see accomplished in His Name. By how we live and work, let us make clear to onlookers that Christ matters
  • See a Need

    1. 1. See a Need,
    2. 2. Innovators • Christians at forefront of setting-up first schools & hospitals, campaigning to abolish slavery & tackle causes of entrenched poverty • Demonstrated relevance and power of God’s gospel by dedicated lives of vision and service • “evangelical entrepreneurs”
    3. 3. Because He lives… • Everything matters – no lost causes, no needs too great… • “all things were created by and for Christ Jesus” • Now “God is reconciling to Himself , whether things in earth or the heavens, by His blood shed on the cross” (Col. 1:16-20)
    4. 4. Utterly Essential… • Never forgetting world’s greatest and deepest need… • Is not more health care reforms or better education methods • BUT our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ who is the solid Rock on which every good and lasting endeavour must be built
    5. 5. Watch Out • 2 Tim. 3:5 warns against those which have “the form of godliness but deny its power” • World’s value statements look great but lack ability to transform lives • Paper appraisals, audits, ticking boxes cannot be relied on to truly change people – only Christ can
    6. 6. See a need… • Say a prayer (only Christ’s love & power able to move mountains!) • Do God’s will – Christ has “committed to us the message of reconciliation” (2 Cor. 5:19) • Jesus is the only hope for our schools, hospitals, government, workplaces, neighbourhoods…
    7. 7. Your work matters • “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men” (Col. 3:23) • Needs prayer support of church fellowship – Christ’s ambassadors wherever He has placed you • “in all things, God works, together with His people, to good” (Rom. 8:28 in GNB & RSV translations)
    8. 8. All-prayer • “pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.” (Eph. 6:18)
    9. 9. Growing Vision • “Then, I saw a new heaven and a new earth” (Rev. 21:1) • “Cast all your burdens on the Lord, and He will sustain you.” (Ps. 55:22; cf. 1 Peter 5:7) • Christ is absolutely relevant & utterly essential for our broken world
    10. 10. John Wesley • “evangelical entrepreneur” – building God’s kingdom, showing His love and compassion • Travelled miles planting churches in UK where biggest gaps existed • Died with 70,000 Methodist Christian followers and thousands others transformed by his life…
