SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University Why revising the materials?  As part of a programme to upgrade the materials, maintain the quality of SCHOLAR courses and ensure relevance to the SQA curriculum, we intend to revise Higher Biology and Higher Human Biology courses in line with the new curriculum/SQA arrangements documents.

SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University Authors remit(s)  Preparation of a course content plan which complies not only with the SQA arrangements document but which fits in with the structure and style used in all SCHOLAR developments (assisted by SCHOLAR).  Review of existing SCHOLAR course materials to select relevant content as a basis for development and upgrading

SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University  Review of all web and print content, including developed interactivities and assessments  Specification for assessments and interactivities for team development. This should include upgrades to existing objects in addition to new specifications.  Review of all web and print content, including developed interactivities and assessments

SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University The process  Authors were expected to prepare the materials in Word, referencing any existing content and be familiar with using email, email attachments and Adobe reader. All materials and reviews should be provided electronically to SCHOLAR.  For review purposes SCHOLAR provides an editable pdf for authors to use for comments (electronically) for both web and print versions.

SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University  Lauren Guazzelli:Team leader for interactivity development: Lauren and her team advised on any technical aspects of interactivity or on any problems authors may be having with the website or access.  Peter Johnson: Educational designer: converting the Word documents and developing the new courses using the old course materials as a starting point. Advised on aspects of SCHOLAR functionality. (Peter was formerly a SCHOLAR Chemistry author).  Oormi Khaled: Assessment developer: Advised on any assessment related queries and can provide further information on the features of the SCHOLAR assessment system.

SCHOLARA programme of Heriot-Watt University Next steps  Both courses will go live in August 2012  Both courses are a close match to the arrangement documents for the CfE Higher Biology and Higher Human courses (published in March 2012)  We are confident that Scholar has provided excellent courses in preparation for the 4 CfE Higher Sciences courses starting in 2014?
