      • “ Sustainable procurement is all about taking environmental and social and economic factors into account in your purchasing decisions. It’s about looking at what your products are made of, where they come from and who has made them.”

    • In Groups of four
        • Task 1 - List the sustainability impacts associated with the products’ life cycles
        • Task 2 - List how these impacts could be reduced
        • Non-re-cycled Printer Paper
        • Bottled water from national company
    • Non-re-cycled printer Paper
      • Impacts
        • Deforestation - climate change; loss of bio-diversity
        • Transport costs; carbon emissions from vehicles
        • Energy and water loss during manufacturing process
        • Air emissions during manufacturing process
        • Bleaching / chemicals – risk of contamination/pollution
        • If used single sided – can double above effects
        • Disposal of paper to landfill?
        • Costs? – economically viable for business?
        • Social aspects - bought locally; workers’ conditions abroad?
      • How can these impacts be reduced
        • Buy 100% recycled paper
        • Use tendering process to buy from more local company with good sustainability credentials
        • Ensure minimisation of use – double sided printing!
        • Recycle once used
    • Bottled Water from national company
      • Impacts
        • Transport costs; carbon emissions from vehicles
        • Energy and water loss during bottle manufacturing process
        • Air emissions during bottle manufacturing process
        • Energy used for refrigeration process
        • Disposal of bottles/extra packaging to landfill?
        • Costs? – economically viable for business?
        • Social aspects - bought locally?
      • How can these impacts be reduced
        • Buy locally, improve local economy, reduce transport costs and emissions
        • Use tendering process to buy from more local company with good sustainability credentials
