  • DST’s goals come from the 10 year Innovation Plan
  • The way THRIP works is that government leverages/incentivises industry to work with academia and science councils in identifying expertise within these institutions, which industry can access in solving some of its knowledge based challenges. If the researchers in these institutions have the knowledge/expertise that is convincing to the industrial partner, government (through the dti) is prepared to match the contribution of the industrial partner(s) according to formulae that are sensitive to certain priorities such as SMMEs and previously disadvantaged individuals.
