SAP HANA Journey

  2. 2. Consider How do you know if SAP HANA is right for your organization? Do You Need Speed? Reliable Analytics? Real-Time Reporting? Ask the right questions to start your SAP HANA journey: • Where does my business need the most help? • What type of SAP HANA solution will help me achieve this goal? • How should I plan my deployment strategy? Take a moment to consider what it all means for you and your business. 3. 3. Evaluate Your Business Situation Ask the right questions to begin your journey with SAP HANA. Map Your Course Create a road map that will guide you toward success. Take Definitive Action Move beyond theory to a solid implementation plan. Strategize Technical Design Assess technical design components. To learn how to make the biggest impact with SAP HANA, explore the key stages of your journey below:
  4. 4. Are analytics a problem in your organization? Do you have plans to grow the business, but need to stay lean in terms of your total operations? Would access to real-time information allow you to accomplish that more economically? Are you an SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse Customer, looking to improve the way you deploy your analytics today? Understanding Value Opportunities in Your Business Before deploying SAP HANA, your organization should take the time to understand where SAP HANA can deliver maximum benefit based on your business goals. Some examples to consider:
  5. 5. What about your day-to-day business processes? If you could run your materials planning processes faster or differently, would that change your business? For Consumer Products, do you have access into the real-time demand in your various markets, allowing you to focus on the right ones? For Retail, could you grow customer loyalty and in-store excellence through access to customer data by your sales personnel while your customers are still in the store? Finally, are there new business processes you could create today? Something that could transform your business but you haven’t thought about doing because of technical limitations? Could a new application be developed, purpose-built to bring these new ideas to reality? For Healthcare, is there a way to manage patient data, allowing you to better serve patients or deliver medical care. CUSTOMER TESTIMONIALS VIDEOS: Ebay TSG HoffenheimPacific Drilling
  6. 6. For the customer looking at real-time analytics to grow the business, an agile data mart deployed on SAP HANA might be the answer. For existing SAP NetWeaver Business Warehouse (BW) customers or those requiring a complete Enterprise Data Warehouse, BW on SAP HANA may be the right place to start. Map Value Opportunities to SAP HANA Solutions Once your organization understands the business value – how SAP HANA can enable business solutions – you next need to understand how to implement SAP HANA.
  7. 7. For the customers needing to enhance operational processes, perhaps SAP Business Suite on SAP HANA is the right option. Or, if you need a smaller first step, beginning with a focused accelerator powered by SAP HANA targeting a single, specific process may be the logical place to begin. For the customers looking at creating a new, transformative solution, an application powered by SAP HANA might be appropriate.
  8. 8. If your organization is looking to quickly deploy SAP HANA and doesn’t have the time or resourcing to manage it in-house, SAP HANA in the Cloud may be the right approach. This allows you to utilize all the benefits and capabilities of SAP HANA, but leaves the environment management to someone else allowing you to focus on solving the business problem. Deploy SAP HANA At this stage you’ve identified the business value, you understand what type of SAP HANA solution should be implemented to realize that value, now it’s time to evaluate your deployment options. Ultimately the right solution might involve a hybrid between an On- Premise and Cloud approach. Sometimes business timelines can’t wait on hardware procurement, and thus a Cloud approach for your development and test environments with an on- premise production system allows you to deliver on time. Or perhaps there are some applications you would prefer to deploy on the cloud, while your core business

Either way it’s all about finding the right combination that fits your needs. Finally, whether on-premise or in the Cloud, Rapid Deployment Solutions (RDS) should be part of any customer’s SAP HANA deployment decision process. SAP has constructed many pre-packaged solutions in a box targeted at the most common use cases.
  10. 10. Map Your Journey It’s important to map your business need to ways specific SAP HANA solutions can help, and then plan deployment. Maybe you are a customer of SAP Business Suite and realize that you want to move to SAP HANA – but not yet. However, you recognize a specific use case now – for example, managing your process for analyzing cost and profitability – that you want to accelerate. You should have a better understanding now of how your business can benefit from SAP HANA, and which solutions and deployment options to consider. The next question to ask is how do I turn that theoretical approach into something specific to my organization? Your road map could start with an early-phase deployment of SAP CO-PA Accelerator software, with a migration to SAP Business Suite powered by SAP HANA at a later date. Or perhaps you want to start migrating other applications to SAP HANA. The key is that your business drivers will feed your implementation plan and be represented through your strategic road map. Create a strategic project road map
  11. 11. Take Action Identify a use case. With a tool so broad, you’ll want to engage IT stakeholders as well as the business owners who will use SAP HANA as a transformative engine. Research and education for all participants must also be a priority. Engage in a design thinking workshop or partner with a service provider who has already completed a successful journey to SAP HANA. 12. 12. From Business Value to Technical Strategy and Design Strategy and Technical Design Assess Architectural Landscape Integration Considerations Assess Data Integration Governance Considerations Develop Project Roadmap Determine Work Plan for First Project Use Case Prioritization Business Value-Driven Roadmap Use Case Indentification Business Value Identification Use case prioritization Prioritize rollouts according to potential benefit. Then gauge the ability of your business to handle change. Finally, evaluate your SAP HANA platform project needs in the broader context of other active initiatives across the business – and align your project with complementary efforts. Business value-driven road map Organize your use cases in a long-term road map. This can help identify synergies that might deliver a greater impact than originally indicated – and paint a big picture that individual cases might not provide.
  13. 13. Strategize Technical Design 1. Architectural and landscape integration Gain a full understanding of your current systems and how they might influence deployment decisions. With a Handle on Possible Use Cases, It’s Time to Assess Technical Implications:
  14. 14. 2. Data integration and governance Consider how current governance, integration, and data ownership rules would have to change to fit the real-time nature of SAP HANA. 3. Project road map Confirm how the release sequences of SAP HANA align with other IT projects, business rollouts, and priorities. 4. Work plan for the first project Once the overarching road map for SAP HANA is finished, you can begin detailed planning of the initial project.
  15. 15. Considerations to Choose the Right Deployment Option 1. Where is the right place for you to deploy HANA? 2. What level of scope does your deployment need to be? Figure 1 provides a summary view of the dimensions and available options. After identifying the appropriate HANA use cases and developing a roadmap, it finally comes to the question of what deployment option makes the most sense for your solution. For the deployment of HANA two perspectives should be taken into account: The HANA Journey Part 3 Deploy SAP HANA 1 2 On Premise Hybrid Deployment SAP Cloud powered by SAP HANA Pilot/Prototype Production Landscape Rapid Deployment Solutions + click to enlarge figure 1
  16. 16. 1. Where is the right place for you to deploy HANA? To deliver HANA scenarios effectively, it is essential to understand the different alternatives available in deploying a HANA landscape. Some of the key characteristics are described in the following section: • On Premise: Classical deployment of HANA infrastructure in a company´s data center. The HANA hardware is integrated into the existing infrastructure and processes. Typical questions to be answered: – How does HANA fit into the data center environment and strategy? – Which skillsets are required to operate HANA and how do we develop those? – What hardware do I need, what is the lead time, and how does that fit my project timelines?
  17. 17. Considerations to Choose the Right Deployment Option (continued) • SAP Cloud powered by HANA: As part of SAP´s cloud strategy there is also the possibility to deploy HANA as a cloud based solution. Different flavors of cloud deployment are available and need to be considered for different use cases. CLICK HERE for a comparison of the available options. – For custom data marts or custom applications, SAP HANA Cloud Platform might be an option. Depending on the concrete situation (e.g. HANA is already licensed) different subscription based options are available, CLICK HERE for details. – SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud offers additionally the possibility to deploy HANA based SAP systems like SAP Business Suite or SAP Business Warehouse in a cloud environment. The SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud is available for production landscapes and also as a Cloud for Projects to be used as a very fast and smart way to gain traction in early project phases.
  18. 18. • Hybrid Deployments: Hybrid deployments describe landscapes where one part is deployed on premise while other parts of the landscape are deployed in the cloud. For example this could be a deployment of development and QA systems in the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud and a deployment of the production system on premise. There are a couple of reasons that might lead to the decision to go for a hybrid scenario (for example hardware lead times, security, governance or strategy considerations). The cloud component of a hybrid solution offers all advantages for an organization like flexibility and scalability (for example to deploy additional test systems for a special project only for a limited period of time).
  19. 19. Considerations to Choose the Right Deployment Option (continued) 2. What level of scope does your deployment need to be? The decision to go for a specific deployment option is also influenced by the level of scope your deployment needs to cover to meet your objectives. • Pilot/Prototype Implementation: For setting up a first HANA pilot, the cloud deployment might be a very good way. Going for a cloud deployment speeds up the project as there is no server lead time, upfront investment, or effort for data center integration required. The system environment can be deployed within a few days or even faster allowing for very quick presentation of results and business value. • Production Landscape: Both SAP Cloud Platform and SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud allow the deployment of production system landscapes. So besides the on premise deployment there are also cloud/hybrid options that can be leveraged.
  20. 20. The decision for a deployment method is not meant to be a ‘one way ticket’. Rather, paths for all deployment options are offered. For example, it is always possible to move from an on premise deployment to the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud and vice versa. Additionally, developments started on the SAP HANA Cloud Platform or the SAP HANA Enterprise Cloud for Projects can be transferred to on premise or Cloud for Production when it comes to the final deployment. Finally, for many HANA use cases SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions are available to accelerate a project and offer a great starting point. Depending on the HANA use case and the project scope, SAP Rapid Deployment Solutions can be leveraged as part of the project building blocks offering advantages in terms of value and speed.
