  2. 2. What is the SAH? <ul><ul><li>The Society of Architectural Historians (SAH) is an international not-for-profit membership organization that promotes the study and preservation of the built environment worldwide. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>www.sah.org </li></ul></ul>

Why a Buffalo chapter? <ul><ul><li>We think it is time to establish an organization whose sole mission is to promote documentation and sound scholarship of our remarkable built environment, both the ordinary and the extraordinary </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>The SAH is holding its annual meeting in Buffalo in 2012 </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>In the 1980s, Buffalo had an SAH chapter which eventually was absorbed by the Preservation Coalition of Erie County, which is now Preservation Buffalo Niagara. </li></ul></ul>

What could our SAH chapter do? <ul><ul><li>Revise and update the 1981 Buffalo Architecture Guide </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Hold an annual symposium </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Collaborate with Buffalo Tours </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Publish scholarship on Buffalo’s built environment </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Promote research into underdocumented neighborhoods, buildings, architects, etc. </li></ul></ul>

How far along are we? <ul><ul><li>We are developing a mission statement </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We are deciding on our geographic scope </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We are adapting sample bylaws from the SAH headquarters </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>We still have to incorporate as a 50l(c)(3) </li></ul></ul>

Who can join? <ul><ul><li>Anyone with an interest in the history of Buffalo’s built environment, including but not limited to: </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Architectural historians, architects, urbanists, preservationists, educators, students, homeowners, city planners, designers, engineers </li></ul></ul>
  7. 7. When are meetings? <ul><ul><li>SAH meetings are held every 2nd Monday </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>J.P. Bullfeathers, Elmwood north of Bidwell </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>7:00 pm </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Admission is free, but we encourage all to order refreshments </li></ul></ul>
