Images For Analysing

  1. 1. Images for Analysing Ryan BaxterThis image contains the band, blink-182. This image follows the rule of thirds; this works well for thisband because blink-182 is a 3 man band. There is clearly a rule of thirds because we can see MarkHoppus on the left side of the image, Tom Delonge in the centre of the image, and Travis Barker inthe right side of the image. The image has a lot of fluorescent colours in the band members t-shirts,this makes the image more effective as it is eye-catching and draws attention to the image. Thisimages style is quite unique as it is in a ‘V’ shape and almost looks as if it is in the point of view ofsomebody stood right in front of the band members. The impact of this image in my opinion is quitestrong; the reason why I picked this image is because the band members look almost as if they arecontrasting with each other. Mark Hoppus (on the left) look likes a stereotypical young punk rockfan, Tom Delonge (centre) looks like a stereotypical American as he is a bit overweight and iswearing the American flag on his jacket, Travis Barker looks like a rebellious social reject as he hastattoo’s all over his body and is wearing sunglasses and a cap sideways on, following the stereotypefor a rebellious person.
  2. 2. This image contains the singer, Pixie Lott. The colour of this image is the factor which is the strongestin my opinion; the image contains a wide range of fluorescent colours around the singer, which thenattracts our eyes to the image and then makes us look at the centre of the image which is in fact thesinger. The colour in this image contains high key lighting, therefore it is very bright, and this iseffective because it makes the image clearer and more eye-catching. There is use of thirds in thisimage, and from the rule of thirds, we can see that the singers face is in the centre of the image. Thisis effective because with the face being in the centre of the image, it also means that the singersface is becoming the centre of attention to a viewer of the image. The impact of this image is veryeffective, the reason why I chose this image is because it caught my eye with the fluorescent colours, this image is also effective because the singer’s eyes are looking right into the camera, hencecreating the illusion that the singer is looking right into your eyes, with the woman being veryattractive it becomes very eye catching to men.
  3. 3. This image contains the singer, Jessica Simpson. This image is quite similar to the image of Pixie Lott, but the colour in this image is different. This image contains high key lighting which means that theimage is very bright; this is effective because this means that it is making the singer look very angelic. The use of high key lighting also has another effect, it is that the use of high key lighting makes herskin look brighter and clearer, therefore eliminating the vision of wrinkles or facial marks, this makesthe woman look more attractive and makes it more eye catching. There is a rule of thirds in thisimage, and from the rule of thirds, we can see that the singers face is in the centre of the image. Thisis effective because with the face being in the centre of the image, it also means that the singersface is becoming the centre of attention to a viewer of the image. The impact of this image is veryeffective, the reason why I chose this image is because the singer’s eyes are looking right into thecamera, hence creating the illusion that the singer is looking right into your eyes, with the womanbeing very attractive it becomes very eye catching to men.
  4. 4. This image contains the band, The Killers. This image is unique in its own way because you rarely seeprofessional images with a blue background, but this has been done for a reason. The reason for thisis that it makes the image more eye-catching to a viewer which in a sense is the purpose of theimage, to be looked at. Also from this image we can see the use of the rule of thirds, this is with thelead singer Brandon Flowers being in the primary optical area, this is effective because the primaryoptical area is the first area we look at as a viewer therefore when we see the lead singer, we thenget further attachment to the image. The impact of this image is quite effective and the reason Ichose this picture is for the same reason. For example, we can see that there is no proxemicsbetween the band members, suggesting that they are a close band. Also we can see that they aredressed formally and this is the stereotypical look for a 4 man band. The overall impact is the ‘cool’look, with the suits and blue background as blue is a ‘cool’ colour.
  5. 5. This image contains the artist Jay-Z. This is a very effective image for many reasons, for example Jay-Z is a rap artist, and therefore with the colours being very dark it is suggesting that he is a verypowerful and intimidating character. Also with the rule of thirds, we can see that Jay-Z’s face is inthe centre of the image, therefore his face is the centre of attention. With that in mind, the use ofrule of thirds has made this image more effective, with the artists face being in the centre of theimage, Jay-Z is also looking straight at the camera, giving the illusion that he is looking straight atyou, this makes the image effective as you feel intimidated by his expression. We can also see thatJay-Z is wearing dark clothes and jewellery, and also his cap to one side, these all express the factthat he is a very intimidating character and also he is portraying that he is part of the ‘gangster’image.
