2. ANCILLARY PRODUCTS
(MAGAZINE COVER)
This is my basic layout draft of my magazine cover next
to a professional magazine cover. From this I feel that
my product has potential to be effective due to it
being very similar to a professional product. My cover
has the main feature film in the centre of the page
along with a picture. The professional cover also has
this present on the cover. My cover has cover lines
supporting the cover story which shows what else is in
the magazine. This is also evident on the professional
cover. My cover has a large masthead that will take up
the width of the magazine at the top. This is also seen
on the professional cover. From this I feel that my
product has the potential to live up to the professional
cover due to the numerous similarities. My research into
magazine covers also will help the product be effective
as I know what I have to put on it to make it conform to
the conventions
3. ANCILLARY PRODUCTS
(POSTER)
This is the first basic layout draft of my poster alongside a
professional film poster. Looking at the two side by side I feel
that my product has the potential to be effective as the
layout is very similar and the structure of each element is in
similar positions. My poster has a large image in the centre
that takes up most of the poster. This is also seen in the
professional poster as it shows the main character in the
centre being the main point of focus. My poster as the title
and information about the film on the bottom of the poster,
this is because this information is not as important to the
poster as the image and title are. The professional cover also
has this as the production and distribution companies are all
placed at the bottom of the poster as they are not important
to the poster. The only difference between my poster and
the professional poster is the positioning of the release date,
the professional poster has the release date at the bottom
whereas mine is at the top. From this and the research I have
done I feel that my poster can be successful and effective as
I know what I have to include in the poster and what the
conventions of posters are.
4. STORYBOARD
From looking at my storyboard and a professional film trailer I
feel that my product can be successful and effective. My
storyboard shows different scenes after each other from
different parts of the film which is conventional for trailers, it tells
the story but not in a linear fashion meaning the story isn’t ruined
with a trailer that tells the story from start to finish in such a short
time. Looking at other trailers this is shown in all of them, there is
no structured pattern to the placement of the shots it seems to
be randomly chosen and put together to create a storyline and
an atmosphere. My storyboard contained scenes which are of
short length at the later parts of it, this shows the fast paced
intensity that I wish to include in the trailer to make it exciting.
This is shown in professional film trailers as the fast paced scenes
are shown at the later part of the trailer after scenes that are
longer and build up to the plot. From this I feel that my trailer
can be successful as it contains many of the conventions
necessary that are in other trailers.
