Our short film needed to have a poster and a double page spread which will help advertise our film to the intended target audience. They needed to be created so they are aimed at the right target audience which is young and older generation whilst still using the codes and conventions of how Greek films have created their posters. Because of our film is the sub-genre ‘Parody’ I have to research films that have based movies on ancient Greeks classic and created posters for them. This will give me an insight into understanding how they are created and how to portray the poster for example if I use an actor on the poster what their facial expression should be and what kind of font should be used for the title. During the filming and editing of the short film I done my research on films that re-enacted classic Greek myths on films like; ‘Meet the Spartans’ and ‘Gladiator’. So to help me create my poster I’ve done research into how these have been constructed to target their audience and help me construct my own poster.

Also by adding in the taglinegives the audience an insight into what the movie is about.By them adding the tagline at the top helps them sell the product to theaudience because of how effective it is because they are giving a briefinsight into film by saying “The bigger the hit the harder they fall” thislets the audience know that the film will contain some sort of violence.Once I proceed to create my poster I will use the tagline idea to make theposter stand out to the audience that will attract them. I’ll make thetagline a reasonable size so it stands out on the page but also make sureit doesn’t overshadow anything else on the page. The title of movie ‘Meet The Spartans’ which is placed right underneath the image is also important and effective because on the whole poster the title is in a bold gold font which will stand out to the audience and let them know what the movie is called. The title on my poster will have similar features as being a classic Greek reincarnation I’ll make the title stand out on the poster so the target audience knows the title of the movie.

This is the second poster I researched for myancillary task, “Clash of The Titans” this isn’t aparody but relates to the Greek mythology.

The designers of the poster have used some useful techniques and features which could be useful for me when I’m creating my poster because it will allow me to draw in my intended target audience also the major tagline which will be at the top I’ll be able to make it stand out to the audience to attract them and the colour scheme needs to be able to match emphasis of the poster.

The title on the poster is a also useful feature because of how it is set across the page. The bold font is useful because it stands out to the audience with the useful light colour as the background is dark. The title being in the centre allows the audience to establish that is the movie title this is useful because this will allow me to make my title stand out so it doesn’t get mix up with any other text on the poster which can be mistaken for the title.
Both the posters I chose for research used important features to come within reach of the target audience through images used and the font style and colour used. The use of the main images on the both posters allowed the audience to know who was in the movie and who the main characters of the movies were. Also the useful tagline which were memorable and useful towards the audience which gave them a small insight into the movie and what to expect. All the features used in the two posters I will need to take into consideration and use some of these features as it will allow me to get attract my target audience easier and keep in line with some of the codes and conventions but challenge it at the same time.
