  2. 2. Vocabulary <ul><li>Windows/Operating System: the software which makes the computer work. Windows provides a way for users to interact with the computer, access and save files. </li></ul><ul><li>There are a few alternatives to Windows. Macintosh Computers have their own operating system, OS X or Leopard are examples. Current Macs can run Windows as well. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Vocabulary <ul><li>Linux is another Windows alternative. </li></ul><ul><li>Net books and low end desktops may have some variation of Linux on them from the manufacturer. Popular Linux versions include UBUNTU and gOS. </li></ul>
  4. 4. More Vocabulary <ul><li>Memory or RAM: RAM has much to do with the computer’s performance or speed. Most new computers have 2-3 GB of RAM. Sometimes RAM is listed as DDR-2 Memory in shelf tags and advertisements </li></ul><ul><li>Processor: Processors are generally made by Intel or AMD. Sometimes low-end systems will come with VIA processors. </li></ul><ul><li>The more processor does most of the computer’s thinking. It works with memory to complete tasks. </li></ul>

Processors <ul><li>Processors come in 32 or 64 bit versions. </li></ul><ul><li>The 64 bit processors allows the computer to have more memory. </li></ul><ul><li>We will also see dual and quad core processors. </li></ul><ul><li>Dual core is like have two processors </li></ul><ul><li>Quad core is like having four processors. </li></ul>

Which One is Right for Me? <ul><li>Generally, Home Premium is the best choice for home users. </li></ul><ul><li>It offers the best range of features for a reasonable cost. </li></ul><ul><li>The Business edition is excellent for small or large businesses where computers are networked together and administrative oversight is necessary. </li></ul>
  8. 8. More Choices <ul><li>Windows 7 Ultimate is generally aimed at the IT professional. </li></ul><ul><li>The look and feel of Windows 7 is almost universal across the different versions. </li></ul><ul><li>It is unlikely most users will notice any difference. </li></ul>
