AppleWorks: Spreadsheet <ul><li>Locate the file you wish to convert and open it. </li></ul><ul><li>Go to “File”-”Save As” </li></ul><ul><li>From the pop-up menu where it says “File Format” select Excel Win 97, 2000, XP 2002 spr </li></ul><ul><li>If the file name does not have .xls, then you must add it. (Example: sample.xls) </li></ul><ul><li>Click “Save” </li></ul>
  4. 4. AppleWorks: Database <ul><li>Open the database you wish to convert </li></ul><ul><li>Change the layout of the database to view it as a List </li></ul><ul><li>Go to “Edit” - “Select All” on the menu </li></ul><ul><li>Go to “Edit”-”Copy” </li></ul>
  5. 5. AppleWorks: Database <ul><li>Create a new spreadsheet in AppleWorks </li></ul><ul><li>On the the spreadsheet in the cells in row 1 recreate the field names that were in your database. </li></ul>
  6. 6. AppleWorks: Database <ul><li>Click in Cell A2 </li></ul><ul><li>Go to “Edit”-”Paste” </li></ul><ul><li>Then save this spreadsheet just as you did before depending on whether you are using AppleWorks 6 or 5 </li></ul>

Microsoft Office Files <ul><li>If the computer you are using has Microsoft Office on it you can transfer word and excel files to a Dell </li></ul><ul><li>Be sure that if it is a word processing file that you save it as rtf and it must have .rtf on the end of the file name (Example: sample.rtf) </li></ul><ul><li>If it is a spreadsheet, be sure you have .xls on the end of the file name (Example: sample.xls) </li></ul>

Saving and Transferring your Files <ul><li>Once your files have been converted you should create a folder for them and name the folder something you will recognize .(Ex.: My stuff or school files, etc.) </li></ul><ul><li>Then drag all the files you have converted and want to transfer into this folder. </li></ul><ul><li>Insert your flash drive into a USB slot on your Macintosh Computer </li></ul><ul><li>Drag your new file folder and drop it on top of the flash drive icon you see on your computer screen </li></ul><ul><li>Double click the flash drive icon to see if your files are all there and close the window. </li></ul><ul><li>Drag the flash drive icon to the trash and remove the flash drive. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Transferring your Files to Your New Dell <ul><li>To upload your files to your new computer insert the flash drive in a USB port on your Dell </li></ul><ul><li>Log onto your Dell and Right-click on “My Computer” </li></ul><ul><li>Select “Explore” from the menu that appears </li></ul>
  10. 10. Transferring your Files <ul><li>A window will open like the one below </li></ul><ul><li>Locate your Flash Drive </li></ul><ul><li>It will say “Removable Disk (E:)” </li></ul>

Transferring your files to your Dell <ul><li>Double click on the icon for your Flash Drive </li></ul><ul><li>Locate the folder that has all the files you converted </li></ul><ul><li>Drag it and drop it on the folder that appears in the left hand window that says “My Documents” </li></ul><ul><li>If you open your documents folder you should be able to locate the folder with your files and open it to see the files you transferred </li></ul>
