    • Single electronic source for finding federal grant opportunities (find) and submitting proposals (apply)
    • Covers 1000 grant programs from 26 grant-making agencies ($400 billion annual awards)
    • Based on standard forms (SF424 R&R)
    • Forms based interface using PureEdge
  • 4. Grants.gov: History
    • 2002: Established by OMB to develop “find” and “apply” functions across all federal grant making agencies
    • Oct 2003: First electronic proposals accepted
    • Sept 2005: Over 15,000 applications received to date
    • FY06: 75% of Find Opportunities on Grants.gov
  • 5. Grants.gov: NIH Announcement
    • transition from the PHS398 application to the SF424 Research and Related (R&R) application, and
    • simultaneously transition to electronic submission via Grants.gov by the end of 2007

    • December 1, 2005 —Small Business Innovative Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer Programs (STTR) (R41, R42, R43, R44)
    • December 15, 2005 —Support for Conferences & Scientific Meetings (R13 & U13)
    • June 1, 2006 —Small Grant Programs (R03) & Exploratory/Development Research Grant Awards (R21)
    • February 1 st , 2007 —Research Project Grant Program (R01)
  • 7. Grants.gov: Other Agencies
    • NSF: No indication (yet) that FastLane will go away anytime soon. Will require 1 application from each of the 8 directorates to be submitted through Grants.gov in ’06
      • Computer & Information Sciences & Eng. Directorate
        • Advanced Learning Technologies
      • Engineering Directorate
        • Infrastructure Materials Applications and Structural Mechanics
    • USDA: Slow rollout. Using for some programs.
    • Smaller agencies are generally moving more rapidly to grants.gov such as the National Institutes of Justice (100%)

    • Do Not Register! UTSA is registered as institution. Users do not need to get DUNS number or CCR registration
    • No native Macintosh support
    • Submit completed PureEdge package along with Routing Form to RD for submission 7 Business days before agency deadline
    • Plan extra time for submission complications

    • For NIH Applications
      • Must have an eRA Commons Account
      • Do not rely on email notifications from the eRA Commons system
      • PI’s must validate their proposals in eRA Commons
