  • 1. training@wesleyan.edu Human Resources (HR) and Information Technology Services (ITS) joined in a high priority initiative to focus on a comprehensive training program at Wesleyan. It is our intention to ensure that faculty and staff are trained to utilize the technology available to them. Automation has dramatically altered the workplace, and faculty and staff are continually required to master changing technologies. All courses arranged by ITS are conducted in Room 523 of the Science Center. Because ITS Training supports both PC and MAC users on campus, differences between PC and MAC processes and functions in the various desktop applications will be discussed in class. A class registration form can be found on the web at: http://www.wesleyan.edu/its/training/application.html Core Competency Classes Core competency classes are recommended for all members of the Wesleyan community. These classes contain instruction on standard software tools, such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, FrontPage, and Eudora. Participant’s departmental budgets will be charged the nominal fee listed with each course. The majority of costs for courses are absorbed by a central university budget. Technology at Wesleyan (3 hour class) No charge for class Learn about the many applications available to Wesleyan faculty and staff, assigned computer accounts and how to access different servers and platforms. Find out about the many features of the voice mail system, computer security, and how to receive support for computer questions and problems. Offered on: Friday, October 11 9:00am-12:00pm Wednesday, December 11 9:00am-12:00pm Document Management (3 hour class) $15 This course is recommended for all computer users who need to get organized. This course covers file management concepts, creating new folders, creating shortcuts, finding “lost” files, determining the amount of free space on a drive and emptying the Temp folder.   • 2. training@wesleyan.edu Intermediate Eudora (3 hour class) $15 This course will cover Eudora tools features. Users will learn to set up stationary, signatures, personalities and address books. Organizing e-mail and addresses using filters, the address book and mailboxes, as well as saving attachments will also be covered. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Eudora (sending and receiving message and attaching files) Offered on: Available upon request Introduction to Microsoft Word (4 hour class) $15 This introductory course will show you how to create and save documents, as well as how to delete, move, copy and replace text. Toolbar shortcuts and tabs are discussed. Also taught is basic formatting, spell checking, and printing a document. Offered on: Tuesday, September 10th 9:00am-1:00pm Monday, November 4th 9:00am-1:00pm Intermediate Microsoft Word (4 hour class) $15 This course is designed for people who already can use Word to create documents, and wish to enhance their knowledge of Word advanced functions. Topics covered in this class are: Mail Merge, use of graphics and tables, and managing headers and footers in a document. Prerequisite: Familiarity with basic Microsoft Word skills. Offered on: Thursday, September 19th 9:00am-1:00pm Monday, November 11th 9:00am-1:00pm Introduction to Microsoft Excel (4 hour class) $15 This is an introductory course designed for those who are unfamiliar with spreadsheets. Users will be able to understand the various parts of a spreadsheet, keep simple records and accounts, and format and print worksheets. You will learn about databases, how to define and build tables, enter data, perform simple queries and create basic reports from your database. This class will provide you with a good foundation for database management. You will also be shown how to save and publish your own web page.   • 4. training@wesleyan.edu Wesleyan Web Certification Academic and administrative departments at Wesleyan are increasingly enjoying the benefits of using the web. We use the Internet to both gather and share information about Wesleyan. As the web becomes more important in daily activities, more faculty and staff are finding they need the ability to create and edit web pages. ITS Training is offering a series of FrontPage (for PC users) or GoLive (for Mac users) classes designed to cover a variety of web publishing topics. The Web at Wesleyan is a prerequisite for all FrontPage or GoLive classes. All faculty and staff who take five of the FrontPage training classes (including Web at Wesleyan and Introduction to FrontPage), will receive a framed certificate of completion. All faculty and staff who take Introduction to GoLive and Intermediate GoLive, in addition to Web at Wesleyan, will receive a framed certificate of completion.   • 5. training@wesleyan.edu FrontPage - Tables and Forms (3 hour class) $59 This course will cover how to create, edit and save forms using FrontPage. You will learn to create checkboxes, radio buttons, and drop-down menus, as well as how to direct data entered in forms. With forms in FrontPage, you can send e-mail results, save information in various formats, including HTML, and create confirmation pages. You will also learn to use tables to organize form layout. Prerequisite: Introduction to FrontPage Offered on: PC Only Tuesday, September 24th 9:00am-12:00pm PC Only Thursday, November 7th 9:00am-12:00pm FrontPage - Themes, Shared Borders, and Navigation Bars (3 hour class) $59 You can customize your web pages using themes that can be applied to a single page or an entire web. Borders can also be used in order to include similar information on each page in a web, such as e-mail links or navigation bars. You can use existing themes or customize with your own styles, graphics and colors. Prerequisite: Introduction to FrontPage Offered on: PC Only Tuesday, October 22nd 9:00am-12:00pm FrontPage - Using Graphics (3 hour class) $59 This course will cover the many graphics features of FrontPage. You will learn to insert text and sound, create hot spots, to use pictures as links, and to change the appearance of graphics on a page through such manipulations as changing size, orientation, background color and cropping. Prerequisite: Introduction to FrontPage Offered on: PC Only Thursday, October 3rd 1:00pm-4:00pm FrontPage - Enhancing Web Pages with Components (3 hour class) $59 This course will cover inserting Table of Contents, marquees, hover buttons, and hit counters on your web pages. You will also learn to change the properties of FrontPage components, including changing the style, color, and text. Prerequisite: Introduction to FrontPage Offered on: PC Only Thursday, October 17th 9:00am-12:00pm FrontPage - Managing Website Workflow (3 hour class) $59 This course is designed for those overseeing webs and subwebs that are updated by a number of people. This course will cover setting up security, tasklists and the reporting features of FrontPage. Prerequisite: Introduction to FrontPage Offered on: PC Only Wednesday, October 2nd 9:00am-12:00pm 5

Prerequisite: The Web at Wesleyan Offered on: Mac Only Friday, September 20th 9:00am-4:30pm Mac Only Wednesday, December 4th 9:00am-4:30pm Intermediate GoLive6.0 (1 day class) $119 For more experienced users of GoLive, this course covers style sheets, custom items and components, navigation bars, floating boxes and working with timelines to create animation. Prerequisite: Introduction to GoLive Offered on: Mac Only Friday, October 4th 9:00am-4:30pm Intermediate and Advanced Courses In addition to the Core Competency classes, ITS Training offers intermediate and advanced courses, as well as courses tailored to those with specific technology needs. Half-Day Intermediate/Advanced Classes Intermediate Microsoft Excel (4 hour class) $59 This course will develop worksheet skills to create formulas, freeze frames, understand absolute and relative references in formulas, and basic graphing. Also discussed in this class will be creating links between workbooks, using advanced functions such as "IF", and enhancing the worksheet by use of centering titles, borders, shading, etc… Prerequisite: Familiarity with basic Excel skills. Offered on: Monday, September 16th 9:00am-1:00pm Wednesday, November 13th 9:00am-1:00pm Introduction to PowerPoint (4 hour class) $59 Learn how to create impressive professional-looking presentations quickly and easily! This course provides you with a good foundation in the basics of PowerPoint. You will learn how to create a slide master, manipulate clip art, change backgrounds, use the drawing tools, and compile everything into a computer slideshow presentation.   • 7. training@wesleyan.edu Advanced Microsoft Word (4 hour class) $59 This course is structured for the "power user," stressing styles, graphics, advanced table features, and macros. You will learn how to create and apply character styles, along with creating master documents. Learn how to create hyperlinks and watermarks, also create, link, import and format an Excel spreadsheet in Word. Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Microsoft Word Offered on: Available upon request Full-Day Intermediate/Advanced Classes ITS Training also offers full-day classes for those who want to learn a computer application in-depth. These classes include numerous hands-on practice exercises. Access Intermediate (1 day class) $119 This course explores more advanced Access query techniques, working with relationships, exporting, importing, and linking data. You will also learn to create and manipulate Access forms and reports. Prerequisite: A working knowledge of Access fundamentals. Offered on: Tuesday, October 15th 9:00am-4:00pm Tuesday, December 3rd 9:00am-4:00pm Adobe Acrobat for the Web and Pre-Press (1 day class) $119 This class covers the variety of tools and features of Adobe Acrobat. This includes adding interactive elements to your document, from custom links to buttons, as well as customizing your documents for high quality print output, by e-mail, the web, or a CD- ROM. Offered on: Wednesday, October 16th 9:00am-4:00pm Introduction to Flash MX (1 day class) $119 This course introduces you to the basics of creating and animating in Macromedia’s Flash MX. You will explore the basics of Flash, including tools and features, create different types of animations and publish material for the Web.   • 8. training@wesleyan.edu Intermediate Flash MX (1 day class) $119 In this course, you will work with graphic and movie clip symbols, create extensive timelines with independent animations, build more complex navigation controls, work with sound, and optimize your movies for viewing by your intended audience. Prerequisite: Introduction to Flash Offered on: Monday, October 21st 9:00am-4:30pm Introduction to PageMaker for Windows (1 day class) $119 In this class you will learn how to create publications and newsletters electronically using PageMaker. In addition, you will learn how to use drawing tools, place text, and apply borders and fills. Prerequisite: Working knowledge of Word Offered on: Available upon request Intermediate PageMaker for Windows (1 day class) $119 This class outlines advanced PageMaker features such as placing graphics, creating text in the story editor, and formatting and printing techniques. Prerequisite: Introduction to PageMaker Offered on: Available upon request Introduction to Microsoft Project (1 day class) $119 This course is an introduction to managing tasks, time management and resource management using Microsoft Project. Some of the topics covered include outlining tasks, setting project durations, linking tasks, creating relationships and assigning task priorities. Offered on: Available upon request Intermediate Microsoft Project (1 day class) $119 This class covers how to organize multiple projects, sharing and sorting resources, determining costs, entering actual data and costs, and creating reports. Modifying project options, creating custom forms and creating charts will also be covered. Prerequisite: Introduction to Microsoft Project Offered on: Available upon request 8
  • 9. training@wesleyan.edu Introduction to PhotoShop 7.0 (1 day class) $119 PhotoShop is a powerful photo-editing program that is designed to create, edit and manipulate photographic images. In this course, you will learn to explore the basic concepts of PhotoShop, select colors, use the painting tools, and apply fills. Offered on: Wednesday, October 9 9:00am-4:00pm Intermediate PhotoShop 7.0 (1 day class) $119 This course is a continuation of the introductory course, explaining how to resize and crop images, work with layers and create special effects. Prerequisite: Introduction to Photoshop Offered on: Available upon request Focused Topics With Lab in Word and Excel The following courses are all 3 hour classes and allow 30 minutes or so of hands-on lab time to work on your files! Prerequisites are the introductory level Word, Excel or PowerPoint courses or equivalent. Word-Merging Documents, Envelopes, Labels (3 hour class) $59 Also known as “Mail Merge”. This course is a necessity for anyone who has to produce documents that need to be sent to groups of people. “Mail merge” can save you a great deal of time. Learn to merge lists of information (in either Excel or Word) into letters, forms, or labels. How to work with labels and envelops is also covered. Offered on: Wednesday, October 23rd 9:00am-12:00pm Word-Templates and Forms (3 hour class) $59 This course is designed for anyone who needs to use the same document or form repeatedly. Learn to create both paper and online forms. You will learn to create tables, merge cells and tables, and create, edit and use templates. Offered on: Thursday, October 31st 9:00am-12:00pm Excel-Charting Data (3 hour class) $59 “A picture is worth a thousand words” and your Excel data is no exception! Once you have mastered Excel on an introductory level, learn to represent your data graphically to make it easier to understand with Excel’s charting capabilities. Discover how to create charts and then make changes to them. Learn to use various chart types including bars, pies, columns and more. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel basics. Offered on: Thursday, October 10th 9:00am-12:00pm Excel- Database Features (3 hour class) $59 Do you have lists of information in Excel and need to find data within those lists quickly? Excel’s database features will help you. You will learn how to find specific records quickly, make data entry easier, use subtotals, sort your data on multiple levels, query your data and more. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel basics. Offered on: Monday, October 14th 9:00am-12:00pm Excel-Formula Building (3 hour class) $59 Recommended for anyone who uses Excel on an introductory level, but needs help with creating formulas and using functions. Course begins with simple formulas and develops more complex ones using multiple operations and functions. Gives participants a solid foundation in spreadsheet formulas. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel basics Offered on: Monday, September 23rd 9:00am-12:00pm Tuesday, November 12th 9:00am-12:00pm Excel-More on Formulas (3 hour class) $59 This course is for those people who have mastered Excel on at least an introductory level and need to create larger, more complex worksheets. Learn about range names and how to use them in formulas. Discover how to link data from one sheet to other sheets using 3-D and array formulas. Learn to use the functions NOW, IF, PMT and VLOOKUP. Learn to create and work with Pivot Tables to look at your data in a variety of ways. Maintain different “what if” versions of your data with Scenarios. Discover the Goal Seek and Solver features which allow you to test for a variety of results. Learn to use Excel’s auditing tools.Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel basics. Offered on: Wednesday, September 18th 9:00am-12:00pm Monday, November 18th 9:00am-12:00pm Excel – Protecting and Automating Worksheets (3 hour class) $59 Save time - protect what you have created and automate as much as possible. Learn ways to protect cells, comments or entire worksheets. Combine protection with the use of templates to create on-line forms. Learn to record macros to perform frequent routines. Customize options, toolbars and menus for greater efficiency. Prerequisite: Familiarity with Excel basics. Offered on: Monday, October 28th 9:00am-12:00pm ITS Training Cancellation Policy Classes that do not meet minimum enrollment requirements two weeks prior to the scheduled class date may be cancelled. Those enrolled in scheduled classes who cancel less than two weeks prior to the training date will be charged 50% of the class fee. Those canceling less than one week prior to the date will be charged 100% of the class fee. This policy insures that ITS can offer quality training for the least cost.
