  2. 2. Introduction This document provides Snap Server® compatibility information for Snap Server systems running GuardianOS™ 5.2. It is intended as a quick reference for information contained in the Snap Server Administration Guide. For full compatibility information on GuardianOS 5.2 and previous versions of GuardianOS, please refer to the Snap Server Administration guide for the specific version. These documents can be found on the Overland Storage Support Portal at: http://support.overlandstorage.com/jive/kbcategory.jspa?categoryID=601 Client Computer Compatibility with Shared Storage Snap Servers support a broad range of network protocols to allow many different operating systems access to shared data. Below is a list of supported operating systems that can read and write data to a network share hosted on a Snap Server. Shared files can also be downloaded from a Snap Server using a browser through the HTTP protocol. Below is a list of compatible web browsers. Below is a list of supported environments to protect data on a Snap Server as well as use a Snap Server as a backup destination. GuardianOS 5.0 or later is required to run BakBone NetVault: Backup 8.1. A Workgroup License with a 500GB VTL license is included with every Snap Server 410, 520, 620 and 650 model. 3 If Snap EDR 5.2.2 was previously installed it MUST be updated to 5.2.2 1195 or later after the GuardianOS 5.0 upgrade. 4 GuardianOS 5.0 or later is required to installing Snap EDR 7.2 5 Requires BakBone NetVault: Backup SmartClient license 6 BakBone NetVault: Backup client agent is pre-installed on GuardianOS 3.0 and later. Snap Server 410, 520, 620 and 650 models pre-license the client agent. 7 Symantec Backup Exec Remote Media Agent for Linux 12.5 allows backup to tape drives attached to Snap Servers supported with GuardianOS 5.2 or later. The following 3rd party solutions are no longer being tested on GuardianOS 5.0 forward: • BakBone NetVault: Backup 7.4 • Symantec Backup Exec 9.x • Symantec NetBackup 3.41, 4.5 • CA BrightStore ARCserve 9, 11.1 • EMC Networker 6.2, 7.2 • EMC Retrospect for Mac 5.0 NDMP Functionality as been removed from GuardianOS 5.0 forward. Tape Drive and Library Compatibility GuardianOS supports tape drives and libraries attached via Parallel SCSI or USB. If using BakBone NetVault: Backup for GuardianOS refer to BakBone’s supported drives and supported libraries documents at http://www.bakbone.com/support/product_documentation/default.asp for a compete list of supported tape drives and libraries, If using Symantec Backup Exec Remote Media Agent for Linux 12.5 on GuardianOS refer to Symantec’s supported drives and supported libraries documents at ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/306831 .pdf Host Bus Adapter Compatibility The Snap Server 520, 620 and 650 models include an on-board Ultra320 LVD SCSI connector to attach a tape drive or library to. The Snap Server 410 models support the addition of a PCI SCSI Host Bus Adapter for tape connectivity. If only one of the two Ethernet parts is being used, disable the other one by navigating to Network> TCP/IP> Properties in the GuardianOS Web UI.   7. 7. iSCSI Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) Support GuardianOS 5.2 and later provides a Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) Hardware provider for iSCSI volumes created with GuardianOS 5.2 or later. GuardianOS-powered Snap Servers support VSS on the following platforms: Microsoft VSS Support Microsoft Windows Windows Server 2003 X Windows Server 2003 R2 X Windows Server 2008 X iSCSI Virtual Disk Service (VDS) Support GuardianOS 5.2 and later provides a Microsoft Volume Disk Service (VDS) Hardware provider for iSCSI volumes created with GuardianOS 5.2 or later. GuardianOS-powered Snap Servers support VDS on the following platforms: Microsoft VDS Support Microsoft Windows Windows Server 2003 R2 X Windows Vista X Windows Server 2008 X Boot from iSCSI Support Some servers can boot their operating system from an iSCSI disk on the SAN.
