Film Openings

 1. 1. Film Openings
 2. 2. The purpose…

The film openings are the most important part when creating a film. It establishes a set atmosphere for the audience which enables them to understand what time of film it is going to be. For example, horror. Horror is one of the most easier to pick up on, as 9/10 it always begins with someone being killed or just basic background as to why the ‘murder’ or ‘killer’ has ended up that way psychologically. However, films to vary on how they opening a film, some may have part of the film before the beginning credits begin, and some just have the credits rolling instead. The opening has got to catch the audiences attention, making them intrigued of what’s going to happen later in the film.

 3. 3. Examples…

The Pacific , is a good example of film openings as it creates immediate interest to the audience. They had created the opening by using charcoal on tracing paper and then scanned and overlaid the back into providing the original footage. The music being used in the opening credits, adds that extra feeling of sadness also, remembering that this actually happened. It’s something you can learn from. It also shows what to expect throughout clearly.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UtmAiNG2Lxk

 4. 4.

Grease, is another good example of a film opening . It’s animated start, and the soundtrack music being used gets the audience interested and dancing along (possibly singing along too). The audience will pick up on what the overall film will be about, and what they could expect (more songs etc) This may be an old film, but people still love it, and enjoying watching it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OtOmKaVbP_A

 5. 5. Scre4m being a horror movie has an interesting film opening. It starts off with a film being watched within a film (Watching a similar to what the actual film itself is about). This interests the audience immediately, having the effect of wanting to know more, wanting to know what happens. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOmnPjzjbho
