  • 1. Research on a College Magazine Notes
  • 2. O & S Front Cover
    • The masthead is nice and colourful with a font appealing to it’s target audience – art students.
    • The main image has been manipulated to give it an artistic watercolour effect.
    • No particular coverlines as such, they are names of artists and poets featured in the magazine.
  • 3. O & S Contents
    • The contents page is of a simple layout and contains the “regular features,” being the art and poetry reviews.
    • Contains “articles of the month” feature, being the poets and artists.
    • Also contains the editors and publishers involved in the magazine.
  • 4. Skin-Deep Front cover
    • Big, attractive title, features a catchy selling line “The UK’s best selling tattoo magazine.”
    • Contains lots of coverlines featuring events and famous tattooists.
    • Free offer advertised in the skyline, regulars advertised at the bottom line.
    • Left third features main cover line, giant main image clearly showing attractive tattoos etc.
    • Appeals mainly to younger, artistic students and adults.
  • 5. Skin-Deep Contents
    • Features huge advertisement for body jewellery and piercings, as well as hygiene products.
    • Crediting the editors and designers of the magazine.
    • List of articles including regulars and articles of the month e.g interviews.
    • Features massive letter from the editor.
  • 6. Comparisons
    • O & S appeals to artistic and designer students and younger people, who like to create drawings and paintings, or write poetry.
    • Skin-Deep appeals to younger people, artistic students and creative people who think of the human body as art.
    • O & S seems a very shy magazine compared to Skin-Deep. O & S has a basic front cover, featuring a few artists involved in the main articles of the magazine. Skin-Deep has a wackier design, featuring many coverlines, events and interviews.
