Chapter 3 METHODOLOGY In this chapter, the researcher present the research method used, the respondentsof the study, the date gathering instruments and statistical tools for date analysis.Research Design This study aimed to determined the performance level BSMT 3 and BSMAR-E 3students math of VMA Global College this 1st semester of A.Y. 2011-2012. To meet the objective of this study the descriptive research design will be used todescribe the nature of situation or a given state of affairs in terms of specified aspects orfactors or characteristic of individual or group or physical environment or conditions(David 2002). With this study the researcher want to know if there is a significantdifference to the performance level between the BSMT 3 to BSMAR-E 3 students inmath of the VMA Global College for the first semester of 2011-2012. Likewise the studywould give an insights to the faculty in the administration to deliver quality education.
2. 2. Subject /Respondents The respondents of the study are the third year students of the VMA GlobalCollege that will be given self-administered questionnaires. The surveyed total population is 400. However, the respondents are selected interms of section. The total number of section of which is 7 (as the present S.Y. 2011-2012) the respondent for section are selected randomly to present their section as a group;the researcher will have to survey the respondents.Total Population - 400Total number of section -7No. o students in every Section =No. of Male = 400No. Female =0 Using the Lynch formula, the researcher got the number of sample subject topresent to population on which is based on any statement about the population fromwhich it is drawn.n=NZ2 p(1-p)Ne2 +Z2p(1-p)

Where:n = Of sample subjectN = Total number of sectione = Margin Error (5% or 0.05%)z = Confidence level valueP = Largest possible portion, usually 50% or 0.5Sampling Technique The sampling that we will utilize in this study is a sample random sampling,which is the basic and best-know probability sampling design that give each unit of thepopulation an equal probability or chance of being included in the sample. From the list of total number of sections in VMA Global College respondents willbe selected randomly using the table of random numbers. The researchers will selectrandomly the section they want to survey. Out of 7 sections the researchers decide torandomly select 2 sections of BSMT 3 and BSMAR-E 3 students of the VMA GlobalCollege. Then the researchers decided to focus on 44 respondents in every selectedsections.Data Collection The data that will be used the study will be obtain by using a self-administeredquestionnaire. The questionnaire will be given to 44 students of VMA Global College. It will beproperly filled up and the questionnaire will be retrieved by the researchers. The data willbe obtained from the questionnaires will be subjected to the analysis of the data.
4. 4. Validity of Research Instrument To test the validity of the instruments, content validity will be used. Theinstrument will be shown to 3 jurors for them to go over the items to job theappropriateness and to make accommodation in order to improve the research instrument.Each jurors was requested to analyze and rate the questionnaire based on criteriapresented by Carter V. Good and Douglas B. Scates. Validation for questionnaire rated3.7 which interpreted “Very Good”.Reliability of Research InstrumentTo test the reliability of the questionnaire, the Z – test method will be used. Theprocedure involves two values (odd items and even items) scoring of the 1st half and thenthe 2nd half in the instrument separately each person and then calculating a correlationcoefficient for the two sets of score. The questionnaire will be given to 20 respondentswith similar characteristics to the actual respondents of the study.After calculating the test on desired date, the retest will soon be conducted after the week.Data Gathering Procedure The researcher conducted an interview schedule where the interviewer preparedtwo sets off questionnaire, and carefully prepared information from the respondents ofthe study.Statistical Tools and Analytical Scheme
5. 5. In accordance with the objectives of the study and the statement of the problem,the data that the researcher will gather will be subjected to tabulation, statistical analysisand interpretation. The data that will be obtain will be computed and analyze using thestatistical tools to answer the problem of the study.For problem no. 1 we use percentage to determine the level of performance of the BSMTand BSMAR-E in basic math of the VMA GLOBAL COLLGE in terms of their age, andlast high school attainment (public school or private school). For problem no. 2 we usethe main to know the capacity of BSMT and BSMAR-E in basic math.For problem no. 3 is to determine if there is significant deference between the academicperformance of BSMT and BSMAR-E in basic math.
