  • Introduction by Dave Yeoman, Senior Director, Enterprise CommunicationsWelcome! Today you’ll be hearing from Colin Mahoney, Vice President, Sales and Marketing for Rockwell Collins Commercial Systems about our company’s latest avionics innovations for business aircraft. As you may know, Rockwell Collins is new to EAA this year – so I’d like to begin briefly by telling you a little bit about what you can expect from us at this year’s AirVenture.
  • We are proud to support EAAAirVenture as a Platinum-level sponsor this year: -Rockwell Collins is the Presenting Sponsor of the daily airshow-And Hangar C has been re-named “Rockwell Collins Hangar C” Our exhibit will be open from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM this week featuring our Pro Line Fusion Flight Deck, Ascend flight information solutions and Venue cabin systems. You will also find our history wall, which covers highlights our 75-year history, including how our technology kept the men on the moon in contact with people on Earth.Later in the week, we will be participating in a forum and we are especially excited for the 787 Dreamliner appearance this Friday – which features a full suite of Rockwell Collins avionics. As mentioned earlier the focus of today’s presentation is our latest avionics for business aircraft. Before I turn over to Colin a few housekeeping items:Q&A at the end of the presentationPress releases, background materials and a copy of today’s presentation can be found on the flash drives you’ve received.Press materials will also be available on our web site at www.rockwellcollins.comNow, I’d like to introduce Colin Mahoney, vice president of Sales & Marketing for Rockwell Collins.
  • Thank you Dave.We do have a number of updates to provide, and as Dave indicated we’re very excited about our participation at EAA AirVenture 2011:Our company is committed to inspiring the future of aviation and AirVenture is a fantastic opportunity to reach out to those who share our passion. Where else on the planet would you want to be right now? We came to AirVenture because it’s a must-see for a global audience of aviation enthusiasts. As others like Boeing with their 787 Dreamliner debut can attest, it’s an awesome place to introduce the aviation world to innovative technologies!
  • In a few minutes, I will tell you about a first that Rockwell Collins is unveiling for the aviation industry. This will add to our list of many firsts for aviation…Back in 1937, Braniff became the first airline to equip its entire fleet with Collins Radio equipment. The idea was to link all of the tuning controls of a transmitter into one common dialing system – the Autotune. Our Horizontal Situation Indicator (HSI) was the first cockpit tool to display a course deviation bar over a compass to help pilots navigate. Now that HSI is universally adopted flying in aircraft ranging from private plans to the space shuttle. Our V-Bar was an industry first that gave pilots something they had never had before – an intuitive, accurate, single-instrument flight guidance system that changed they flew. The V-Bar is now standard on virtually every aircraft flying today, including being integrated digitally into our Pro Line Fusion avionics system. How many of you traveled here using GPS? From the first GPS receiver prototype to the first trans-Atlantic flight aided by GPS navigation equipment, to the first handheld GPS receiver, Rockwell Collins is a pioneer in GPS technology.
  • Pro Line Fusion is proven – as indicated by the products very recent certification on the Bombardier Global Vision flight deck by Air Transport Canada. On track for full certification of the aircraft later this year -- with entry into service planned for early 2012.
  • Pro Line Fusion is trusted. To date, we’ve announced Fusion applications on ten commercial OEM platforms: six programs at four OEMs, located on four continents. With each new platform, Pro Line Fusion’s innovation becomes more prevalent as the system’s flexible nature allows us to integrate into a variety of flight decks. Each platform has new features and capabilities. For instance, on the Global 6000 we’re introducing integrated eyes-forward SVS – displayed on the HUD, eyes-forward point-and-click flight planning and numerous FMS features such as the graphical CG envelope, a rich suite of Airport Visualization Enhancement tools. The Learjet 85 is Fusion’s debut on an all-composite airframe, proving that the product has the right HIRF/EMI properties as we compete for future positions on all-composite aircraft, and that we have the right background as a company to execute. It is also our first implementation of on-screen circuit breaker controla capability made possible through our open system architecture. The MRJ and CSeries both demonstrate the value of integration with Rockwell Collins internally designed high integrity Fly By Wire Primary Flight Control Computers, of advancements in our display formats with a specific eye toward airline fleet operations, and the CSeries will be the first Fusion platform with CAT III auto land. When you pair these near-term product line enhancements with our level of investment in future breakthrough technologies, you can appreciate the confidence we have in our strong positioning to win future business.
  • The trust we’ve built with our OEM’s has led to a recent win at Embraer which selected Pro Line Fusion to make its military debut on the Brazilian Air Force’s KC-390 tanker/transport aircraft.
  • Pro Line Fusion avionics system for business aircraft is debuting this year.Pro Line Fusion’s innovations are built on 4 key pillars:Situational awareness Intuitive airport visualization enhancements, including the synthetic vision Airport Dome that orients pilots before descent and target runway highlighting on the airport diagram.Empowering user interfaceAn empowering, eyes-forward human interface featuring synthetic vision on the head-up display. We are excited to announce a new technology to empower the user interface in a way never before seen in the industry in a few minutes. ScalabilitySmart integration providing flexibility and growth to meet future challenges.Information enabledUsing Rockwell Collins Ascend Flight Information Solutions, networked capability enables interoperability to synchronize the aircraft and ground systems and make database updates. For example, operators can save time by entering all flight plan, performance and weight and balance information remotely and send it to the aircraft using WiFi or cellular communications. And today – I’d like to bring you up to date on some of the newest innovations to this product line, our proven performance on this program as well as the whole Pro Line family, and the trusted relationships we’ve created and continue to create with the many platforms that have selected Pro Line Fusion.
  • While we are moving forward on these platforms, Pro Line Fusion is defining future avionics innovation with new market leading flight deck features for business aircraft – which I’d like to talk about a little more: Namely our new compact HUD for Business Aircraft, Autonomous Backup Control, and introducing today industry-first touch-control flight displays.
  • Announced earlier this year, the Rockwell Collins HGS-3500 is the first head-up display for light- to mid-size business aircraft. The new HGS-3500 empowers flight crews to achieve greater precision at all times by presenting information in the pilot’s forward field of view, eliminating the need to continually transition from head-down instruments to a head-up, out-the window view during critical phases of flight. Exclusively available for aircraft equipped with Rockwell Collins Pro Line Fusion™ avionics, the high degree of integration between the HGS-3500 and Pro Line Fusion makes it possible to display synthetic and enhanced vision images directly on the head-up display (HUD). A recent study by the Flight Safety Foundation concluded that HGS technology would have likely prevented 69 percent of all commercial takeoff and landing accidents.
  • Now on to our big news…Rockwell Collins is unveiling today the industry’s first touch-control flight displays, which will available on future applications of Pro Line Fusion. The new touch-control flight displays enable natural, eyes-forward operation because the PFD/MFD are themselves touch screens. When you’re flying, you keep your eyes on PFD/MFD … and now you can also touch the PFD/MFD to control the system and content. It’s basic hand-eye coordination. As you know, touch-screen control is becoming ubiquitous in the consumer market, and our technology lets you do some “really cool” things when you apply it on a business jet PFD/MFD.For example, when programming the flight management system, instead of entering information on a console-mounted keypad, pilots can redirect to a graphically displayed waypoint or destination with a single swipe of a finger Same goes for programming a holding pattern: just touch the place on the map where you need to hold, select “hold” and you’re good to go. As another example, to split your PFD between SVS and a map or chart, you just touch the PFD and select “split” … you “touch what you want to change” and you drag and drop icons to select what you want to see.I could go on and on, but a video of this technology in action will help better illustrate what I’m telling you.
  • Easy-to-use graphical interface to customize the flight display.Intuitive icons let you quickly change from one scene to another – all with your eyes up and forward.Change your route with one touch of the finger on the multi-function display without having to look down and enter information on a console-mounted keypad.Quickly scan the weather, close to your position or across an entire country.
