    • 7/27/13 Adapting GTO Games for Internet Browsers Going beyond Java to create a truly cross- platform, multiplayer board game network
    • Why Launch Games via Browsers This initiative will bring GTO’s games to the mobile and tablet computer markets. GTO chose to approach this goal by adapting its Java game engine to launch games from internet browser using Google’s PlayN. This will provide the following benefits: A single code base to serve multiple devices - PlayN compiles Java code and converts it for play in HTML5, Flash, Java, or native Android No native application to play games – because games are played through a browser, there is no need to pay distribution fees to an app store Retains GTO’s established Java game engine but removes the necessity of the end user to have Java on their computer Technology that builds on GTO’s multiplayer network and existing community to provide a full multiplayer experience, not just blind matchmaking
    • Browser Game Schedule Stage 1 - Researching methods to make GTO games playable through browsers; selected PlayN; completed Spring 2013. Stage 2 - Feasibility test connecting a PlayN game to the GTO Java server: completed a multiplayer tic-tac-toe game that plays in a browser on GTO server in June 2013 Stage 3 – Adapting an existing GTO game (Tsuro/Tsuro of the Seas) for PlayN; anticipating completion in early September Stage 4 – Using Stage 3 findings to create a schedule for migration of other GTO games Stage 5 – Developing a browser based lobby Stage 6 – Transitioning GTO games to PlayN
