    • Externship Program 2008 – Student Application (Yale Asian and Asian-American Alumni Association of New York and the AACC) Program Description The program is a one week “externship” during the second week of spring break (March 17-21) that brings undergraduate students into the work places of Yale alumni in New York. By working with or shadowing the sponsor, the student will be able to experience that particular career hands-on. The program is meant to give students the opportunity to gain experience in a career they are interested in or to help them explore the multitude of professions available to them. Descriptions of the externships offered this year are below. Program Contacts: AACC Alumni Coordinators: Leang Chaing (Leang.Chaing@yale.edu) & Julie Yang (Julie.Yang@yale.edu) Program Goal • To provide undergraduate students the opportunity to experience a career hands-on. Student Responsibilities • Students will be responsible for their own housing during the week and transportation to and from work • The sponsor and student should have a conversation before the externship to determine the student’s particular goals, what the sponsor can provide and what can reasonably be accomplished during the time period • Students are expected to go to work everyday and behave in a professional manner. 1

    • Externship Opportunities 1. Sponsor: ING Capital LLC Job/Externship Description: The extern will be working with the Managing Director and head of Investment Industry Group Corporate banking (large size loans ranging from $10 million to $250 million) for investment managers (managers of corporate pension funds, mutual funds, hedge funds, private equity funds, etc) and/or their investment vehicles (ie private equity funds, hedge funds, etc). The extern will spend 4 full working days with the sponsor, attending all internal/external meetings, listening in on all telephone calls, and having opportunities to ask questions to the sponsor and the sponsor's team members on all aspects of the business. Helpful/Required Skills: • Strong listening and note-taking skills so as to ask probing questions after meetings and phone calls. • Interest as well as general knowledge in banking and finance. Additional Information: Extern is expected to be in business attire for the duration. 2 externships available. 2. Sponsor: IntraLinks Job/Externship Description: IntraLinks is the leading provider on on-line workspaces for the secure distribution and organization of confidential files. IntraLinks NY is a Corporate Headquarters where a candidate could be exposed to all aspects of sales, marketing, client services, and business development. Extern will learn the basics of Software as a Service (SaaS) business – leveraging technology delivered over the Internet to support business workflow and processes, specifically, Channel Partner Management – how a technology company leverages partnerships to build solutions for clients as well as partner to leverage other sales teams to distribute “workspaces”. Excellent opportunity for someone interested in technology and financial services. Helpful/Required Skills: • Basic Computer skills – MS Office Suite. • Basic analytical and research skills. 3. Sponsor: MTV Networks- MTV Digital Job/Externship Description: Sponsor leads the team responsible for harnessing the creative and strategic energies of MTV Digital Media to create and execute smart & compelling sponsor integrations within the sites’ programming, online components to multiplatform programs, and freestanding advertiser experiences, from micro sites to advertorials, to sweepstakes & promotions. Extern will work very closely with Ad Sales & Ad Operations, Integrated Marketing and the MTV.com site production team to deliver the right online experiences at the right times through the right means for sponsors and consumers. Extern would be exposed to the fast-growing world of online advertising and sponsorship. At any given time, there may be over 25 active projects and during the Spring Break period, the team is usually quite busy with Spring Break sponsors. Students would see how online campaigns are 3
    • put together, from the pre-sales pitch, to the details of the production process (including video and interactive applications), and into final delivery. Additionally, a student could conduct a marketing research project during the week to identify new opportunities in online advertising. Helpful/Required Skills: • Excellent written and verbal communication skills Creative thinker with an eye for detail • Familiar with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Project, and Visio Familiar with HTML, Flash, and other web technologies • Familiar with other digital and web technologies, i.e. Podcasts, mobile, broadband video, widgets, social networking sites 4. Sponsor: Living Arts Acupuncture and Taichi Job/Externship Description: Living Arts offers time-honored Oriental medical practices in a context of gentle, compassionate guidance for those who are ready to explore the power of mind/ body commitment in the matter of their own wellness. Fully competent in the arts of diagnosis, acupuncture and Chinese herbology, Patients learn to integrate these treatments into their lives, to generate true vitality, wholeness and peace of mind. Helpful/Required Skills: • Ability to observe without making people nervous • Patient confidentiality is must, as well as gaining their trust • Sociable and willing to listen to other’s stories 5. Sponsor: Community Development Project of the Urban Justice Center Job/Externship Description: Community Development for UJC serves as “resource ally” to grassroots community-based organizations across New York City; focuses on health access for the uninsured, post-9/11 health care and policy, medical debt, immigration, and workers’ compensation. http://www.urbanjustice.org/ujc/projects/community.html?id=asXtGyc8 Externs will become familiar with how lawyers, advocates, and policy specialists can support and partner with community members and organizers; engage in creative, radical approaches to social change for immigrant workers and the working poor; learn about social services, activists, and community organizations in New York City; receive a thorough introduction to health care, workers’ compensation, and immigrant rights issues; meet awesome people! Helpful/Required Skills: • Languages: Chinese (all dialects), Spanish, Polish 4

Sponsor: Cason Nightingale Job/Externship Description: Cason Nightingale is 15 year old boutique firm with a background in HBA, lifestyle, specialty food, retail, beverage and institutional marketing and advertisement. Extern will have a bird’s eye view of the advertising process, interacting with clients such as Yale Summer Session. Helpful/Required Skills: • Basic Microsoft Office Proficiency 5
