  • But whether the cloud is public or private the cloud is merely an IT service, providing ?does it provide information? and computing power to end users.  In other words, the compute cloud is essentially a service-driven data center, and as such, it needs the ability to guarantee performance through SLAs, the ability to move workloads around based on user demand, and a flexible operating system that can run anywhere. Basically, you become the service provider.
  • What about the cloud? Cloud computing is promising to change how companies think about IT. Eliminating the long lead times and investments required to implement physical servers in a traditional world is a compelling promise of value. However, Cloud computing is a journey to costs effectiveness and time to market for new applications.  Companies are exploring moving their IT resources to both private and public clouds, depending on the use case, mission criticality and nature of the data.
  • “ Nervous about Security” is the #1 answer – but many of the others are also security concerns: prefer “on-premise”, problems with shared resources, regulatory compliance and license compliance are all other ways to say, “I don’t trust it”
  • The Service-Driven Data Center turns your IT infrastructure into a competitive weapon by creating a data center that adjusts and reacts to your changing business needs on-demand.  With the service-driven data center, you can deliver the business services that your end users need and guarantee performance while maximizing the IT infrastructure assets.  As a result, you become the ultimate service provider to your business, helping them drive revenue and growth, while you reduce the cost, complexity and risk inherent in operating every data center.  Only Novell has the unique combination of solutions that let you deliver the services that your users demand whether you are running a 5000 server farm, a 10-server closet, building an internal cloud, or you are a giant hosting provider for the cloud.
  • How do you know if you are meeting SLA's for the services you are delivering?  The only way is to have strong, yet easy to use capabilities for measuring data center performance.  Novell Business Service Management solutions allow you to measure data center services and involve everyone in the organization to ensure accuracy while maintaining an easy to use environment.  Providing you with the visibility to run your data center as a service. At the end of the day, a data center is really a collection of business services that help your end users do their jobs.  But how do you know if you are meeting the needs of those users?  Is your IT infrastructure really optimized?  How do you measure performance against service level agreements?  With Novell Business Service Management, you have the tools to link the underlying IT infrastructure to the business service it delivers and gain true insight into the performance of your data center.
  • BSM is basically built on a three-tier architecture. At the bottom level is the IT integration layer. It’s here that we leverage those 70 different adaptors to reach out and integrate various silos of information – aggregating, normalizing that data and feeding it to the BSM service model. Within the intelligence layer reside common services and analytics like root cause and impact. What’s more, it’s here that specific BSM applications come into play to provide capabilities like CMDB and service level management. Finally Novell BSM provides two different but complementary visualization capabilities… First, we provide a java based operations console that allows administrators and other IT operations personnel to handle the day-to-day administration tasks of BSM and IT management. In addition, BSM provides Web 2.0 based dashboards that let a broad set of IT and even business users view and report on real-time IT management information – information that’s tailored for their individual roles and needs.
  • Let’s take another look at BSM dashboard examples. It’s important to know that our dashboards can be tailored to individual roles or customized to suit a number of different needs. Here we’re showing example dashboards for SLA compliance, and telecom services, as well as simple vanilla IT management. But these are just representative examples… most importantly, BSM can be tailored to your own business needs.
  • Slide 8: IT Vendor Landscape with Novell Full Offerings Now, even the systems software space has its own stack, and we are very specific about where we play. As you can see from this chart, we deliver value at the operating system, systems management and security layers. And we deliver this value through software that is based on the best open source and open standards technologies. Our infrastructure software is engineered to be interoperable and support whatever choices you've made at the database, middleware and application server layers—delivering true cross-platform support.

    • 9. What is Cloud Security Service?
      • Novell Cloud Security Service (NCSS) is a web-based security service that makes SaaS more secure and manageable.
      • It gives enterprises the ability to:
        • Manage user access to apps and data hosted in the cloud
        • Break down trust-related adoption barriers to SaaS by providing:
          • Single Sign-On (SSO),
          • Provisioning /
      • de-provisioning
          • Service access and
      • consolidated reporting
          • Automated rules for
      • user account management,
      • and audit reporting
