  • Hi! Lovely to meet you all. My name is Jenny Helldahl, I work as communications coordinator as well as project manager at Junibacken, a place I lovingly refer to as Magical Mayhem.
  • Our way of unlocking the door is by being very hands on! Or feet on. Or bum on. Or your whole body on. We make children´s book illustrations into three-dimensional worlds to step into. Key words are recognition and inspiration. If you already know the book we have portrayed,we want you to instantly recognize and feel “at home” in the exhibition. If you are not yet familiar with it, we want you to feel curious, and inspired to read it! Or - and this is just as important – as a parent, feel inspired to read it to your kids.
  • You see, statistics show that the bed-time story is declining as well as children´s ability to read longer texts. This is a huge and complex problem. Luckily for you I only have six minutes to speak and therefore no time to depress you with further facts. But we do need to get children to read!
  • So how DO we get children to read?
  • And now, time to brag. Today we have about 400 000 visitors annually. This makes usoneof the toptouristattractions in Stockholm.
  • We have 100 employees who are all passionate about children, children´s books and who all realize the important of fun. If our actors didn´t enjoy performing five times a day to a wonderful audience who simply stands up and leaves if he or she does not enjoy it, or shouts out that his or her dad has the exact same hat as that man on stage, or that he or she simply MUST go to the toilet right now, they wouldn´t be any good at it.
  • If our carpenters didn´t enjoy building a giant monkey with a airplane control center inside,
  • or our stage designers didn´t enjoy painting a chaoticpile of junk, the kids wouldn´t like it in the end either.
