  2. 2. <ul><li>Taiwan is an island about the size of Vancouver Island. </li></ul><ul><li>It is located of the east coast of China and separated from the mainland by the Taiwan Strait. The island is very mountainous in the center and subject to earthquakes. </li></ul><ul><li>Taiwan is divided in to four regions. The north is the most populated and the capital, Tapei, is situated there. The central and eastern part have many rivers and lakes since these parts are mountainous. The south has the nicest and warmest temperature. There are many beautiful parks and beaches here. </li></ul>Geography of Taiwan

  4. 4. <ul><li>The population of Taiwan is about 23 million so it is very crowded. Most of the people are Chinese from the south China region, especially form the Fuzhou Province. In 1949, many mainland Chinese fled to Taiwan after the Communist defeated the government. There are also 13 aboriginal groups who inhabit the mountains of Taiwan. They are Taiwan’s minority. </li></ul>Population

  7. 7. <ul><li>The Taiwanese food is varied and delicious. This is because the Taiwanese people come form all different parts of China so there are many kinds of food. There are noodles and dumplings form northern China. Spicy dishes form the northwestern areas. There are delicate dim sum dishes from China and delicious seafood dishes from the east coast. The aboriginal natives also have some very unique and tasty food using locally grown vegetables and spices. </li></ul>Food
  8. 8. <ul><li>Taiwan’s flag is red with a dark blue rectangle in the upper left corner bearing a white sun with 12 triangular rays. Taiwan’s flag represents the Three Principles of the People : </li></ul><ul><li>Blue represents democracy </li></ul><ul><li>Red represents nationalism </li></ul><ul><li>White represents people’s livelihood </li></ul><ul><li>The 12 triangular rays symbolize the 12 months. The flag was designed by Lu Hao-tung in 1895 and was adopted as the national flag on December 17, 1928. </li></ul>Taiwan’s flag
