Monty Python and the Flying Circus <ul><li>They made 45 episode over 4 seasons </li></ul><ul><li>Monty Python is a British comedy show that started in 1969 </li></ul><ul><li>Monty Python’s cast played as doctors, lawyers, politicians, academics, and policemen because Graham Chapman was a qualified physician, John Cleese attended law school, Terry Gilliam majored in political science, Terry Jones and Eric Idle studied English, and Graham Chapman’s father was a policeman, so they all had something to do with them. </li></ul>
  3. 3. How Monty Python and the Flying Circus got its name <ul><li>They got the name Monty Python and the Flying Circus because they thought it was funny. The cast says it has nothing to do with anything else. At first, the name got rejected, but every week they threatened with different names until BBC said that they could keep their name. The some of the names that they suggested were “Owl Stretching Time”, “Toad Elevating Moment”, “A Bucket, A Horse and a Spoon”, “Vaseline Review and Bun”, “Wackett, Buzzard, Stubble and Boot”. </li></ul>

And Now For Something Completely Different <ul><li>It was a Monty Python movie made in 1971 and was 90 minutes long, using favourite sketches from the first two seasons of the show </li></ul><ul><li>It was made for an American audience to try to get Monty Python popular in America </li></ul><ul><li>It was a low budget movie, and the first movie that the Monty Python cast made </li></ul><ul><li>The group didn’t consider this movie a sucess </li></ul>

Monty Python and the Holy Grail <ul><li>This movie was made in 1975 and was directed by Terry Jones and Terry Gilliam </li></ul><ul><li>It was made of entirely new material, so the cast called it a proper film </li></ul><ul><li>It’s a spoof about King Arthur trying to find the Holy Grail </li></ul>

The Characters <ul><li>Graham Chapman played as King Arthur, and Terry Gilliam played as Pasty, Arthur’s squire </li></ul><ul><li>The knights of the round table are Sir Bedevere (Terry Jones), Sir Lancelot the Brave, (John Cleese) Sir Robin the Not-Quite-So-Brave-As-Sir-Lancelot (Eric Idle), and Sir Galahad the Pure (Michael Palin) </li></ul>

The Plot <ul><li>Monty Python and the Holy Grail is about the legend of King Arthur, and the knights of the round table are instructed to find the Holy Grail by God </li></ul><ul><li>They find a French castle and King Arthur decides to split everybody up to increase the chances of finding the Grail </li></ul><ul><li>After they split up, each of the knights encounter difficulties, for example, Sir Robin finds the Three Headed Giant </li></ul><ul><li>Then they find each other and cross the bridge of death, where they have to answer questions before they can cross, Sir Robin and Sir Galahad answer incorrectly and were thrown into the chasm beneath the bridge </li></ul><ul><li>They get ready to storm a castle, but before they can, the police come and break it up all and the movie ends </li></ul>

Monty Python’s Life of Brian <ul><li>Was a comedy movie made in 1979 </li></ul><ul><li>It is about the story about Brian Cohen (played by Graham Chapman) and is about a young Jewish man who is born next to Jesus Christ, and is mistaken for the Messiah. </li></ul><ul><li>Lots of religious groups said it should be banned, and some countries banned it for decades </li></ul><ul><li>To promote the movie, they made posters saying “So funny it was banned in Norway!” </li></ul>

Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl <ul><li>Released in 1982, and it is 77 minutes long </li></ul><ul><li>It is written by all of the cast, and two more new people named Tim Brooke-Taylor, and Marty Feldman </li></ul><ul><li>It is a concert film, and Neil Innes performs some songs in it </li></ul><ul><li>All of the cast is in the movie, and Carol Cleveland, in a supporting role </li></ul>
  11. 11. The Cast <ul><li>There were 6 cast members that wrote all of lines for the show. </li></ul><ul><li>Their names are John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, and Terry Gilliam. </li></ul>

John Cleese <ul><li>He often wrote with Graham Chapman split away from the other cast members </li></ul><ul><li>He left after the 3 rd season before the last 4 th season because he thought that there were no more original content. He also found Graham Chapman’s drinking problem too difficult to deal with, and Chapman was usually drunk. </li></ul><ul><li>He was in all 4 of the Monty Python movies </li></ul>

Graham Chapman <ul><li>Worked with John Cleese while writing a lot </li></ul><ul><li>While he worked, he started having a drinking problem and lots of the time was very drunk </li></ul><ul><li>He usually played characters with authority and that were very calm </li></ul><ul><li>Chapman played the lead roles in Monty Python and the Holy Grail and Life of Brian </li></ul><ul><li>John Cleese complimented Chapman by saying that he was “very possibly the best actor of us all” </li></ul>
  14. 14. Terry Jones <ul><li>He directed the movie Monty Python and the Holy Grail along with Terry Gilliam </li></ul><ul><li>He usually worked along side with Michael Palin. </li></ul><ul><li>He usually played as middle aged women </li></ul>
  15. 15. Terry Gilliam <ul><li>Terry Gilliam was the animator and didn’t usually appear on film </li></ul><ul><li>When he did, he usually played character who didn’t speak much, or didn’t at all </li></ul><ul><li>When he did play he played as the knight that would end the show by taking a plucked chicken and knocking it on the head of a character </li></ul><ul><li>He was the only American in the cast, everyone else was British </li></ul>
  16. 16. Michael Palin <ul><li>Michael Palin usually worked with Terry Jones </li></ul><ul><li>He played very enthusiastic people like in the lumberjack in the lumberjack song </li></ul><ul><li>He wrote and played most of the awkward players in the show </li></ul>
  17. 17. Eric Idle <ul><li>Eric Idle worked alone most of the time </li></ul><ul><li>He usually played characters who had communication and language irregularities </li></ul><ul><li>He played guitar and played songs </li></ul><ul><li>He played the song “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life”, a Christian spoof about the cross </li></ul>
  18. 18. Facts about Monty Python <ul><li>Monty Python did most of their own stunts, and didn’t get stunt doubles very often. Graham Chapman was a qualified mountaineer, and Michael Palin fell 15 feet into a canal for the show after John Cleese hits him on the head with a trout fish. </li></ul><ul><li>It was ranked #5 in TV Guides 25 Top Cult Shows Ever in 2004 </li></ul>
