  • 1.  O. Henry was born on September 11,1862 in Greensboro, North Carolina.  His birth name was William Sydney Porter  O. Henry was from a middle class family, he was the middle child of three sons.  O. Henry was 3 years old when his mother and brother passed away from tuberculosis.  His father was a medical doctor but he cared more about drinking than his practice.

  • 7.  Passed away June 5,1910  Cirrhosis of the liver  His last words were “Turn up the lights- I don’t want to go home in the dark.”  Funeral services were held in a church in New York City but was buried in Ashville, North Carolina.
