  • INTRODUCTION
    • Defense Travel System (DTS) is a fully integrated, electronic, end-to-end travel management system that automates temporary duty travel (TDY) for the Department of Defense .
    • It allows travelers to create authorizations (TDY travel orders), make reservations, receive approvals, generate travel vouchers, and direct deposit payment to themselves and the government charge card vendor.
    • DTS is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

  • ESSENTIALS TO USE DTS
    • Common Access Card and PIN to login into DTS.
    • Need Government Credit Card (GOVCC) and bank account information before you can set up your DTS account.
    • If you have a current DTS account with a previous command that command must “release” you, before we can receive you into our command.

  • DTS TRAVELER TRAINING
    • You will learn to create an authorization/order, a travel voucher from that authorization, and a local voucher.
    • DTS traveler training is conducted in Bldg. R-48 on a monthly basis. Class is held from 0900-1500.

  • APPROVING OFFICIALS TRAINING
    • As an Approving Official, you will learn the key factors of what to look for, when reviewing an authorization/order, voucher and local voucher for approval.
    • A discussion of the Joint Travel Regulations.
    • Approving Officials training is held every two months in Bldg. R-48. Class is held from 0830-1200.
    • POC for training is Cindy Watts 757-443-2156.

    • Non-use of GSA City Pair contracted flights
    • Going outside of the DTS system to secure lodging and rental cars

  • TSA SECURE FLIGHT INFORMATION
    • You are now required to provide the Transportation Security Agency with your full name as shown on your government issued ID, your date of birth, and your gender when you travel via air.
    • DTS will prompt you to update this information each time you make reservations, including rental car and lodging.
    • This can also be updated on the Welcome page under the Traveler Setup tab, Update Personal Profile, My TSA Information.

  • UPDATING OTHER INFO IN YOUR PERSONAL PROFILE
    • Under the same tab (Update Personal Profile) you can update your address, credit card information, and bank account information.
    • Keep in mind that once you begin an authorization it will retain the previous information, so please update your profile PRIOR TO creating a new authorization.
    • Failing to update your GOVCC information (new exp. date) will result in SATO getting a decline from Citi when they try to issue your ticket.
