WHAT IS SOCIAL BOOKMARKING?
When I first started a business venture online, I became a huge fan of social
bookmarking sites like Digg, Delicious, Propeller etc. I viewed them as a
highly in demand websites. I had limited knowledge about them. I thought
that it is just like submitting to a search engine. But I was totally wrong.
Now I realized how effective it is for every internet marketer. As we often
hear, website ranking is through having numerous backlinks and website
traffic.
To give you a brief insight, social bookmarking site before is a tool used for
website popularity and web traffic. When a marketer adds an article or
website on a social bookmarking site, it has a large probability that many
people will see it. Yes it provides additional visitors every day but I came to
realize that not all people will return to your website once they got there;
unless your website is so unique and worth visiting. In short, the purpose of
website popularity is not that much in effect. Not all of us are good in
memory recall, right?
Just this month, I learned a very valuable lesson about social bookmarking
sites. It is not just about website popularity, it gives instant backlinks to your
site. I still remember those times I spent with directory submission. I visited
tons and tons of directory sites hoping that they would list my site thus
creating additional backlinks for me. Unfortunately, a high percentage of
those sites did not list my site. I felt bad about that but now I am thankful
because social bookmarking seems to be much better than directories. In
fact, most people don't visit directories nowadays. People tend to rely on
search engines and social sites.
If you are planning to make your website popularity grow by next year, don't
waste your time submitting to directories. For me, it is better to pay those
web services that offer directory submission because it will save much of our
time and I guess it is not that expensive. On the other hand, you might try
gathering a list of social sites and start bookmarking your websites. I will
assure you that it will give good results for your websites.
