How Secure is your Data?
Not very it seems. One way that your data can be stolen is thru something called phishing -
this is where you receive an email from your bank or credit card company. Usually this email
will look authentic and will say that your account has been comprimised and that you must
go to the banks website and re enter in your personal information. When you click thru to
the site, it will look authentic, however when you submit your information it will be sent to the
ID thieves who will then be able to gain access to your personal accounts and information.
You should be extra careful in monitoring all financial transactions. Check your bnak
and credit card statements for unexplained account activity, withdrawals, or fund
transfers.
Here are other areas where identity theft can occur:
- medical transactions
- bank transactions
- mails and e-mails
- credit card transactions
- internet transactions
Many people believe that it is only from the internet that ID theft can occur - however this is
not true. Remember throwing away that credit card statement without shredding it? Be
careful of all your personal information and make sure you shread everything
