Being a crook these days is simply a matter of acquiring the correct information without being found out and then using it to their advantage. For example by runing up credit card debt to name but one - this is how the identity theft process works. Identity theft is a crime wherein some other person gets hold and uses another individual's personal data for a fraudulent purpose. However the main purpose of identity theft is for acquiring money and finances to avail of goods or services. Personal information can be stolen names, birth dates, social security number and driver’s license number. Theives can assume your financial identity by gaining access to your credit card, bank account and phone-card numbers. "It is important to note that your personal information allows thieves to benefit at your expense." This is in contrast, for example to your fingerprints that cannot be easily copied or stolen. In a good deal of cases, victims are not aware that their identity has been stolen until perhaps months or years later. The aftermath of being a victim of identity theft are also devastating. You'll be confronted with the need to shut down bad credit accounts, attempting to repair them or open new ones. While doing all of these things you also need enough money to try and pay off debits accumulated. Other problems that occur are that until you have cleared you name and debt, you can be denied jobs, loans, education, housing, and transportation. The Federal Bureau of Investigation, have said that identity theft is one of the fastest growing crimes in the US alone. The fact that that there is an increasing number of people reporting cases of identity theft can bear witness to the conclusion made by the FBI. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (C) Richard Butler www.richardbutlerthesuccesscoach.com
