  • Myspace: Before social media users knew Mark Zuckerberg, we knew Tom Anderson as our first “friend.” Essentially, Myspace laid the framework for Facebook, but where they went wrong was total customization.
    Facebook: Originally founded as a way for Harvard students to connect, Facebook opened up to everyone in 2006
    YouTube: user-uploaded video site, original content, 2005, Google purchased YT in 2006
    Twitter: first micro-blogging site, allowing users to share mini messages
    Pinterest: invite only originally, visually dominant, taking bookmarking to the next level
    Google+: September 2011 opened to everyone, invite only at first, Google integrated multiple products with G+ rollout
