Resourcd File Presentation Transcript

  • 1. iPads Androids and BYOD – moving targets in the classroom!
  • 2. Agenda • Research stuff • Time, money and BYOD • Edmodo • Socrative • Quizlets
  • 3. Research stuff • Not very consistent! • The lesson of the IWB • Psychological evidence • Active v Passive
  • 4. Time money and BYOD The following suggestions are based on not adding to the teacher’s burden (!) • Principle 1: should be possible – mostly web sites because no installation procedure • Principle 2: should be free – for students and staff • Principle 3: should be intuitive to use – minimal tech and easy to add content
  • 5. Edmodo • US based but know every school in the UK (!) • Like a social network but with complete teacher control • Post messages • Set assignments / quizzes • Tracks scores • Stores documents • App
  • 6. Socrative • Please go back in time and space to Keele for details! • Good for ‘live’ questions • Can set questions and answers copied from mark schemes • Can set MCTs • Stores all the responses • Can be used to generate flash cards … • App
  • 7. Quizlets • One of many free(ish) flash card makers • The best I’ve found so far • Lots of cards already made • Easy to cut-and-paste from Word to make more (other word processors are available) • Produces instant tests! • Produces instant PDF cards / glossaries • App
  • 8. Learnclick • This is the only one that needs to be paid for • It is the best on-line cloze site I’ve found • You can ‘try before you buy’ • It was about £30 for a year for the ‘top of the range’ • Later turned up as an Edmodo app, for which there was no extra charge
  • 9. MindMeister • Free (ish) • Collaborative mind mapping • ‘replay’ timeline • Apps • … it’s been a while
