The Johari window is a model which is used in
order to get and give feedback whether it may be
in the personal or professional area.

Point 1 - Things I know about myself
and things that others also know ….
This includes things such as race, name, height, age
etc. Those are the characteristic which identify you
which you have shared with people when you have
introduced yourself when you started college, or when
you started at work or even on placement.
This information essentially is the information which
you want people to know about and which open for
everyone to know.
What sort of information about yourself would you
share when in a helping relationship and why ?
Point 2 - Things that I know about
myself but others don’t know about
The hidden area contains information that we don’t
want others to know about us. It is the closet where
one hides their deepest feelings, insecurities and

The blind spot is the information that others know
about you but that you don’t know about yourself.
Theses things can be either positive or negative
depending on which way you interpret it.

The unknown area contains information that you
don’t know and that others don’t know either. This
could be things such as your potential, abilities
that are yet to be discovered.
This could be applicable to both your personal life
– ability to be a good problem solver and also to
your professional life – having great selling skills.
So what now ……
Now that you have identified and gathered
information in all the boxes it is time for you to put
it all together. This is essentially about merging
arena together such as The Open Arena and The
