  • I love to travel and take photos (like all above). I like learning, too - the practical stuff. I am documenting all my learnings on stuff in a fun way - from what I learned from Doc JFL, from internet and my friends who are stock investors.Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in this article are those of the authors and do not necessarily reflect the official policy or position of any agency cited in the material. • What the heck is stocks - in layman term please!A Stock is basically a slice or a share. If I think of a cake, each slice is a share. For example, PLDT offers 5,000 shares of stocksto the public (that’s me, public!). Just anexample to illustrate: this 5,000 shares is 50% oftotal PLDT’s company value so if you buy 1,000shares, I own 20% of PLDT. Voila!Another example: PLDT wants to sell shares ofstock to raise money that it will use to furthergrow the company (maybe to buy Sun cellulartehee). Either that or they borrow money fromthe bank - and we know how huge the interestof borrowing money form the bank, that evenbig companies try to avoid it. - Currently, I am an owner of theseNow, each share has a corresponding price. companies as I invest in their stocks!Let’s say, one PLDT share costs, for example, Awesome-ness!Php5.00. So if you want to buy 100 shares, youneed to have Php500.Check out my blog: Learnstocksin5min at Wordpress trademark: MFC
  • Why would I invest money in stocks? I do invest in stocks because: - I do not have huge money to acquire real estate properties yet or start my own business - I can make up to 30% growth of my investment, or more! - It will be in my control and my decision - Philippines poses to grow very well currently up to 2 years, healthy financial market! - It requires only 1 hour of my time in a week to trade wiselyCheck out my blog: Learnstocksin5min at Wordpress trademark: MFC
  • How much money I need to start stock investing?Check out my blog: Learnstocksin5min at Wordpress trademark: MFC
  • Php 5,000 /US$120 That’s my initial investment, my friendThis is because that is the minimum required amount toopen an online trading account in the Philippines. I usedCitiseconline (which recently changed their name toCOLFinancial). Here’s how I did it.I googled first online trading accounts available in thePhilippines and I have seen COL and two other bank-affiliated companies of Metrobank and BPI. I chose COLsince it has the easiest, no-fuss process of enrollment. Igathered the requirements (which are not much) and visitedtheir office in Ortigas, same building as PSE. This was just inJanuary 2012. It wasnt too busy that day and a very nicelady helped me open the account. It was less than15minutes including filling out forms and paying in thecashier. Towards the evening, I received an email activationof my account and the next day, I was able to log-in and startbuying my first companiesPhp5,000 at 30% growth in a year will only yield Php1,500.So I decided to put some more money and invest a total ofPhp 24,000. You can also put money little by little every pay-day and build your portfolio of companies little by little aswell. Apparently, this is what famous Bo Sanchez’ household I would like to appreciate COL’s offer of “online trading account”maids are doing. They buy stocks every month! as this revolutionise the way people trade stocks. I can never imagine myself talking to a broker to trade buy or sell my shares.Note to myself: If you are new, start small. Then, as you get Just too hassle, especially if you have a day job. This onlinethe hang of trading, start putting in more money! account is so convenient as I can access it anytime I want!Check out my blog: Learnstocksin5min at Wordpress trademark: MFC
  • Now, how do i trade stocks? based on what i have heard and read, i shouldremember 3 golden rules: I’m a newbie! How do I play?1. buy low2. sell high3. don’t be greedymakes perfect sense to me! Check out my blog: Learnstocksin5min at Wordpress trademark: MFC
  • First, which company shares to buy? In buying stocks, companies use a “boardlot” or the minimum number of stocks one has to buy. Seems among the top 30 companies, if a stock cost less thanI should not buy companies offering penny stocks or Php10, minimum requirement of stocks to buy is 1000.stocks that cost very little amount of money. It seems Stocks above Php10 per share requires 10 shares asbeing a penny stock makes a company high-risk for minimum purchase.investors as it can go very high and very low - in short, unstable. Unless... COLFinancial provides a lot of information about stocks. One of which is “Ceiling Price,” which is their predictedIt belongs to the top 30 highly regarded companies like level the price of the share will go up or reach by thethose companies making up the PSE index. PSE stands end of the year. Simply put, the predicted growth infor Philippines Stock Exchange, which is a composed of Pesos per share of stocksall the top 30 best performing stocks in the country. There are thousands of companies selling stocks and allof those vie to be in the top 30. Why? Because being My stock portfolio consists of companies that I know ofin the top 30 means these are very good stocks: as I have been consuming their products and servicesstrong financial foundation and great potential for as well as companies which I see the potential trend togrowth as assessed by PSE. I should stick to top 30! be upward trademark: MFC
  • BUY LOW: BUY STOCKS WHEN 2 CONSECUTIVE DIPS ARE DETECTEDWITH THE SECOND DIP SHOWING LOWER LEVEL THAN THE FIRST DIP I love Bloomberg website! trademark: MFC
  • SELL HIGH: SELL STOCKS WHEN 2 CONSECUTIVE UPTRENDS AREDETECTED WITH THE SECOND UPTREND SHOWING HIGHER LEVEL THAN THE FIRST UPTREND trademark: MFC
  • DONT BE GREEDY: IT OFTEN LEADS TO GREAT LOSSES Waiting for further peak but the price went down, incurring profit loss trademark: MFC
