In this IDC study (a translation of the Japanese document IDC #J13280103), we analyze the results of a user survey conducted by IDC in April 2013, entitled Japan Cloud User Survey, 2013.Some early-bird users are leveraging cloud to develop new businesses. Many companies, on the other hand, view cloud only as a means to cut costs. To expand the IT market, it will be necessary to change the postures of user companies from one that is "passive/defensive (focused on improving business efficiency by cutting cost)" to one that is "active/aggressive (focused on business expansion through active spending)," which will not be an easy task. "It will be important for vendors to adopt strategies like 'strengthening solutions with a focus on customers' and 'strengthening platforms with a focus on technologies' to change the posture of companies, and beef up business strategies that will make them industry leaders," says Satoshi Matsumoto, research manager, IT Services, IDC Japan.
